1.How much amp/voltage draw does a 250 Pro XS have on your crank battery when your rig is stored ? 2.Why does it take so long for my crank battery to recharge ? Its been over 14 hours and the green light still hasnt lit up.The other day it took probably about 18 hours.Temp has been up and down but no hard freezes or anything. Dealer stated he noticed the same thing when he installed charger. He load tested the battery and it checked out ok. I switched charging leads around and it did not follow the charging cable. Voltage on battery after over 12 hours is 12.2. Smartcraft guage says battery is ok,but Im worried that when i get on the lake its gonna go kaput. I bought this boat with 2.5 engine hours that was in the water only once.Ive been trying to get out on the water since buying it on the 13th.Just dont want to be pissed off when I do get to go and have a battery issue on a basically new boat. Battery is a ProGuide 27group ThanksLast edited by MudDukk on December 28th, 2008, 8:20 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Either the charger is bad or the battery is bad. Switch leads around. Your statement “I switched charging leads around and it did not follow the charging cable” isnt clear to me. If the battery was load tested and maintains 12.2 volts then you likely have a bad charger. What are the volts when you turn the engine over? If the battery fails to turn the engine over at 12.2 and voltage drops down below 10 then you have a bad battery. There will always be a small amp draw from a Mercury and therefore, you should charge or make sure your battery is top of weekly – biweekly. If the dealer suspected something, it should have been solved then and there, not later.
Ok Phil this is what I meant.Crank battery was hooked up to bank 1.Banks 2,3,4 are the TM batteries.2,3,4 go to green within 2minutes.I switched the leads up to TM 1,3,4 and the lights go green as before and now bank two is RED.Ill let it charge for awhile and see if I see green, but I got to believe the battery is no good.Going on 18 hours. Cranking motor off at my house is not an option as I cant find my muffs…Think the dog got to them.Flark !!! The crank battery is warm to the touch and the TM batts are cool as a cucumber. So my thinking(not a strong point of mine I realize) says the charger is trying to charge the battery but it aint gonna happen.
I agree. It looks like cranking battery has a bad cell. You will notice the first time you go to crank and it wont start.
Thats what I figured.I think someone got into my voodoo dolls and is using them on me.DERN !!! Reckon my dealer will send me a check for a new battery since they are in your neck of the woods and its already been back once and looks like to me they dropped the ball again.
If he installed the battery I dont know why he wouldnt. Ill have to get right in the middle of his rear end if he let this go and he suspected a battery problem. However, I dont know all the details!
He didnt install the battery. It came in from out of state, but regardless,if you buy a boat as new and pay taxes and have to put up with all the hassle of getting it registered and blah, blah, blah the boat should come with good batteries. Thanks for your help Phil
Like I said, I dont know the details and can only assumed which boat it might be. Yes, I think I would agree with you on the batteries if it was sold as “new”.

Sounds like youre thinking is right on track. I hope you get your battery issues resolved. You are going to love that new boat. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
The battery should be under warranty by whichever battery company it is. The dealer locally for that battery brand should handle the warranty. BCB
