My ‘03 cougar FTD is getting a new TM. I read that mounting holes would match up but they do not appear to. I originally had a MG tour, then switched to a MK Maxxum pro and the holes lined up on those. The Ultrex factory holes are all narrower than the existing front and rear pair of mounting holes.
If I drill new holes, should I fill the old holes with epoxy first – like the west systems stuff? Will this add any strength or is it a waste of time if they are hidden?
Also, I need to elevate the TM mount a bit to clear the raised contours at the light and trim switches. This is due to the 52” mount length. I plan to cut out a section of 1/2” starboard marine lumber the same size as the mount base. Should I also use the rubber isolator pads with the starboard or bolt it solid? Or is there a better way to mount the TM higher off the deck?
Thanks in advance!
