We are going to break in our new PII at LOZ tomorrow and wonder if we should use premium gas for VMax HDPI 200? Where do we get the Ring Free? Thanks!

They do not indicate that 91 or 93 is required, though Yamaha Techs suggest 89 all the time. They sent all the Yamaha Technicians working on the SHO project to Chevron for school on fuels in California. Once they completed school those same techs only burn 89 in their vehicles. It was a very eye opening experience for them. Though 87 is all that is listed. BCB

Is that because the computer in the motor can take advantage of the 89 octane, ie. more horse power, or does 89 have cleaners in it that the 87 doesnt?

They considered 89 to be a much higher quality.

Does, this pertain to the VmaxSHO 200HP engine too? I thought I read somewhere that 87 octane was specific to the VmaxSHO 200 motors.

Tom…I think with the 200SHO…you have to run racing fuel. Seriously…someone on the BBC posted that you should run 89 in the 250s, as BCB said, and 87 in the 200s.

Saw it on the Yamaha website. 87 for the 200, 89 for the 225/250. My car runs on premium but can run on regular without problem but you lose some hp. Just wondering if that word work on the 200 in reverse.
