I posted a few days ago about a six-week-old Trophy beginning to rust. Today I spoke with two boat mechanics at two different marine outlets. Both told me that Mercury was having problems with prop ears breaking off, so they started using less stainless steel in the alloy with which they are made. This causes them to rust, but keeps them from breaking. So everyone with newer Merc props should expect to experience the same.
