I’m thinking about upgrading the courtesy lights in my 2009 Cougar to the new bass cat LED lights with push button switch. I believe the current lights are all out, unless I don’t know how to correctly turn them on (i bought the boat used less than a month ago so this could definitely be the case). Either way, i think i would like the LED lights better.

I was hoping to get some guidance, does anyone have experience doing this? First off how do you remove the old square ones? Also, I understand the new lights will fit right into the place of the old ones, and I’m assuming they should just wire up the same. Any insight?

I replaced the lights in my 2015 Caracal with the new LED lights. Your flip lights in your Cougar probably will work. The connections may just be corroded, that happens frequently to them. Of course the bulbs could be burned out as well. Replacing them with the LED’s is a pretty simple task. The will cover up the hole left by the flip lights. The old lights should just pop out of the hull, I think there is some spring metal holding them in. Just be careful prying them out. Once you get the old lights out, be careful disconnecting the wires from them as they aren’t very long and may well fall back down into the hull. That would not be a good thing. lol The new lights connect to the old wiring just like the old ones did. You will have to drill some small holes into the deck to attach the new lights.

Assuming they are like mine, (2015 Puma) the light itself is a “rocker” switch. Turn on the master switch for the boat and press the top or bottom of the light to “rock” the light up or down. You can also get replacement switches or you can take them apart and clean the rocker assembly.

The current ones are like this. They rock up and down…is this how you turn them on?

You are correct. You just push in at the top, or push in on the lense at the bottom to turn them on. Be sure your master power switch is on.

When mine quit working, I removed them and gave them a good cleanup and they worked perfectly again. Try that and if it works, then you have more time to plan for swapping them out.

New LED are much brighter and easier to use. Swap them out even if the flip ones work you will be glad you did.
