So Im sitting in Afghanistan dreaming of finding a new to me boat. I have found a couple of used panteras but I have some questions. Where there any changes to the pantera models that make one year better then another? Im seeing a few early 2000 modelsmwith rebuilt power heads, should I steer clear of those?I have a budget of around 15k, but I would like to find one a bit cheaper so I can deck it out in electronics and a new terrova trolling motor. The boat will be used primarily solo for bass and occasional musky, at least till my son gets a bit older then hopefully it will b a family bass boat.Any advice would be appreciated. Obviously being on the wrong continent makes shopping a bit tougher at the moment.
The best site is obviously the boats for sale board joined to this Yuku site. There are very few clean P2 and Pantera Classic models in your search parameters as they have a lot of value used in the new economy. Less boats built new raises the values of those used rigsand many bring well over book price in these times. Find one that fits your needs and then ask someone credible from this board to check it out for you. There are plenty of qualified persons who would be glad and honored to look over a rig for someone serving our country. Best to you in your search and Thank You for your service. BCB
Im no expert, but between the two used bcbs ive purchased, I have looked at thousands of them. There isnt much difference between the year models in the early 2000s. Starting in 2000 BCB went to a liftime transferable warranty. I think your price range is right where it needs to be for a well cared for 2002 or 2003 P-Classic. You might need to wait for that good one to hit the market, but it will come. If you find one within a few hours of Minneapolis, I would be happy to go take a look. Good luck with your search. Thanks for your service-Kent
Thanks for all the advice. Im hoping to find a boat when I get home in Dec.Also thank you for the kind words and thoughts. But I must say I am not over here in uniform this time. I did that a long time ago, well it feels like a long time anyway. Im over here this time to make sure all my former brothers get home safely.
Dang it, I just found a buyer for mine locally! But, you should be able to find what you are looking for for that price range. I would look for a 2001-2003 range with a 200 Optimax if you can find it. The EFIs are great motors but for the same price in a used rig you would be better off with the Optimax. Patience is the key to buying a good used boat. Look for one that has had an upgraded trolling motor, seats, electronics during its previous ownership. If not, youll be replacing that soon when you buy it. I would be cautious of a rebuilt powerhead but dont let a rebuild totally scare you off. A properly rebuilt powerhead can give you years of trouble free service. Im of the opinion that you can tell right away when you look at a boat in person wether or not it has been properly cared for. Dont get duped by being in a hurry. If you dont look at it and say “thats the one!!” Dont buy it. Good luck in your search and be safe over there. I realize its a little over your budget, but the condition and year may make it worth a look.I have no knowledge of the seller or interest in the boat (disclaimer).Link to ad below:http://www.westernbass.com/forum/2006-b … 81927.htmlYour Signature …
A bit more then the wife wants to spend. Do you think I would have an easier time finding a sabre?
I bought a 96 pantera classic after a lot of looking at boats, Only paid $9500. My g/f now loves to go fishing with me and feels really safe at high speeds. The boat will run 70 with an 96 200 merc EFI. Of course the motor had low hrs. I have run it in rough water on Toledo bend and rayburn and never got wet. I think one time I shaved the top of a wave and dusted us with a little water but that was operator error. It wasnt bad though, and since it was really hot it was actually a good thing. You will love the ride. The only thing I wish mine had was hydraulic steering. I have been thinking of adding that but $2000 is a lot of money. BUt for a safety stand point it will be worth it. With the cable steering the boat turns hard right when you let go of the wheel. Other than that.. I LOVE my new boat. I take it out 4-5 times a month since I have bought it.

As others have said just be patient and keep looking. You will find the right one. The next few months shoud be good time to be looking. Each boat I have bought I purchased in the cooler winter months. I think that is the time to get a deal. Although the Sabres are great boats, if you can I would try and hold out for a 19 boat. Good luck with your search.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
