This question is only to clear my curiosity up! I mainly crappie fish. Many times Ive had many crapple in my livewells. Very seldom do I lose one. I mean my fish gets introduced to grease anyway! Though I want them alive and kicking when I arrive back home. But occasionally I lose a few though its rare. The theory of the venting system makes sense. IMO bcb livewells are the best on the market. Many question for me surround these vents. DO THEY REALLY WORK!. ARE THEY BAD TO CRACK BEING CONTINOUSLY STEPPED ON. DO THEY CREATE A STEPPING HAZARD? As Ive stated I lose very Few fish. Is this something I would install? Its not on my upgrade list at the present time. For me its just for my knowledge2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I dont see how it would help. The only time I think I would need help cooling the water is July and August. And those two months there would be 100 degree air being forced in the live well while running. During those months I just put a couple frozen water bottles in the live well first thing. That with a wet white towel layed over the lids and Im good.
Just open your livewell lid turn the latch to prop the lid open, and let it vent while fishing, also helps to place a life jacket or your throw cushion over the lids to keep the sunlight off them. It works and allows your livewell to remain cool(er)
Thank for the responses. As stated VERY SELDOM do I lose a fish. Im sure alot of this Is due to the time of the yr Im most active. Its definitly in the fall, winter and spring. Wat little bit of bass fishing I do is at night. So water temperature is not as big of a issue. As stated the theory behind the vt2 makes sense. I was just curious in real time did they help. Thanks for the input.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
They are having a sale on them at bassboatcentral. I just ordered a set for $31 and free shipping. A couple of guys in our club swear by them. With the metal latch the live well can get pretty hot in the Louisiana heat and Im too old to remember to latch them back before taking off. I figure it cant hurt anything.
I have them in my 98 P2 and as for stepping on them they flex under your shoe and I dont notice when I step down. As for working, you will have to decide for yourself. I feel like the fish are more lively when trying to pull them out so I feel they work.GeorgeGeorge
I have them in my 94 PII and love them. The idea that they only work when running is wrong IMO. I have only lost 1 fish since installing these 4 years ago.
Installed them on mine. Cant hurt for sure. Not a trip hazard. The part of the vents that are raised up a little are flexible and softer, so they dont break when you step on them. I have no idea how effective they really are. In the heat of the summer my livewells would definitely build up heat inside and obvious when opening the lid.The southco latches are hot to the touch. Im not sure how much the vents help, but I know they do help dissipate the smell after using them when opening them up a couple of weeks later.
I was very skeptical of them. But, they do work and they work very well. I have an older Champ that I have modified the livewells. Added 2 recirc pumps, oxygenator, overfill the wells by approx. 10 gallons, etc. This summer during our 3.5 hour jackpots water temps were in the low 90s. Our fish seemed to be healthy, but nothing spectacular. You could really feel the heat off of the water when the lids were opened for whatever reason. Fished a tourney with my buddy who has an older R boat. IMO, the older R livewells are the worst ever made, as far as keeping fish alive. All he has one recirc pump, no fancy gadgets other than VT-2 vents. Water temp was the same 91-92 area. We put in a bottle of frozen water around 530. At 10 when we pumped the water out, the water was still cool. Our fish were in great shape and hard to catch in the box. No doubt in my mind the vents help. Just my .02, but they are worth the 40 dollar investment.
Theres no way on Gods green earth that 2 low profile vents do jack crap. I just dont buy it. Airflow right there is likely far from laminar directly between the seats so there is no way that at WOT any substantial air runs down those things. As for venting ammonia I would expect that the usual lid opening and closing activities would do that. As for water temp if its 95 outside and I have ice in the water why do I want to fight the heat sink of the lid latch AND more hot air being passively let in by those vents? I dont really want a hole in my igloo cooler to let hot air in do I?C.O.D. Jr. III
Well I m hearing about wat I figured. A mixed bag of opinions and thats what I figured I was gna here. Law of physics tell me a few things. One and foremost is heat rises thats proven. So any opening will let the hot air escape. Other gases are created when the first fish is in the livewell. Now with some gases being heavier than other it remains so to speak at water level. Sure opening the livewell or proping the lid open will help. I guess the vents can help. I dunnot kno. But the theroy makes sense. IMO alot of things help fish stay lively. Ive learned this through owning a 70 gallon aquarium. I think water movement. Water recirc. And a good aerator and water volume and water temperature consistly are all key factors. This is why we float the fish we buy at the store in their new home. So in the end are the vt-2 vent just a placebo? Who knows. As one opinion stated YOU WILL HAVE TO DECIDE FOR YOURSELF! One thing is for sure I will remain optimistic. When and if I install these I will speak my personal opinion.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
And in a series of 1 thats all it will be- personal opinion and not science. Thats what drives me nuts about junk like these vents. Folks cashing in on guesswork. This vent is about like those fish stickers guys put on their boats a few years back. If u wanna save your fish keep water cool, stirred, and oxygenated. Show me a study or experiment that proves those vents do any of hat and Ill lay off. Knowing Rick hes wondered and he hasnt pushed these cause he didnt see the usefulness.C.O.D. Jr. III
I mean the dang vents are not even an intelligent color choice- theyre friggin black.C.O.D. Jr. III

Clownshoes not to start a quarrel for sure. Its the sole reason I posted. To hear opinions. I agree with you on the colors. Color match to carpet would be nice. Some things I see in the boating(fishing) industry dont make sense for sure and the cashing in. But I guess its the business. Even RICK himself posted . WE WANT TO KEEP FOLKS WISHING THEY WOULDA WAITED ONE MORE YR. TO PURCHASE. As far as the vent concept. I dnt kno! Ive just seen a few rigs with them. Had my curiosity high. Not quarreling over them for sure.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
