vent hose?

My vent hose needs replacing but my local stores only carry the foil hose. I’ve searched on the parts page for a replacement with no joy. What does BCB recommend using and is there a link? The hose I am talking about fits on the base of the chrome cowl vent (https://www.basscatstore.com/chromecowlventwithbase.aspx ). Thanks.

Just cut it to length(use the old one as a guide) so it sits without any big U hoops as the water will settle in those areas.

despite not having the item included within the BCB parts web page, I’d still call Allen in parts. I suspect he can acquire some off of the assembly line and sell it to you.

Thanks abigdog, that is what I was looking for. The local hardware stores only carry the metal drying vent hose.

BCB – I don’t know if others would purchase, but it doesn’t seem to be something I can get locally for all the big box stores have the metal foil hoses and I haven’t found the plastic one locally. My guess is if you can sell them at a price compatible to Amazon (including shipping) then it would be worth it. It wold be worth purchasing from your store to ensure the proper fit and function.

I assume the one linked above is similar to the one you would carry/sell. If not the case, please link to the proper one. Thanks.

Before I order the hose…is a hose even necessary? If the port vent has a hose and air flows into the compartment, why is a vent hose necessary in the starboard rear facing vent – wouldn’t the air escape through the vented hole regardless of whether there is a hose attached? Any harm in leaving the hose off? Thanks.

Rich,

I would use the vent hose unless you have sealed batteries (AGM , lithium) or don’t plan on fueling your tanks. Your main concern being the vapors produced by lead acid batteries is heavier than air. The same with fuel vapors, they are heavier than air. The vent tube gets down to the lower part of the bilge and will aid in recirculation of the air.

The idea is to get the “heavy” fumes out. So the side with the scoop facing backward (vacuum at speed) runs to a hose down at the bottom of the bilge to exhaust any possible gasoline fumes (which are heavier than air and will sink to the lowest point). The vent facing forward could probably be hose-free, but running hose down (but away from the other one) can stir up the air/gas fumes and get them out quicker.

I found a replacement marine hose at the local west marine. thanks all for your input.
