Guys – just wondering if I would get better voltage to my front deck mounted HB HD/DI if I ran power direct from the cranking batter direct to the unit. When I updated to the 788C HD/DI last fall I just used the same power connection that was installed when the boat was new in 09. I run a HD SI/DI on the console and I have to assume they are sharing the same power connections from the fuse block. What is happening is that I get low voltage messages on the front unit and you see the voltage level dropping as the morning goes by which is understandable, but this happends pretty fast. One unit is a 788 and the other is a 798, and the cranking battery is only three months old. I have begun to turn the rear unit off once I start fishing. I was just turning the sonar off, but now I turn off the entire unit. Any ideas or thoughts about running a direct line? If so, what gauge line would be the best?
It is corrosion on a wire or terminal somewhere. Probably on the rear terminal block on the transom. That is usually the culprit. BCB
If it is not original equipment it might be somewhere else but it really sounds like a dirty or loose connection. I soldered all the connections that I have added over the years.
i am seeing a V drop as well. i dont think that the 06 sabre has a terminal block. where should i start looking?
Eventually this seems to be a corrosion issue. We would try a temporary hot connecting the wires to see if that corrects the voltage drop. Of course have a friend on the wires for removal. This would indicate a circuit breaker dropping. We have seen lots of circuit breaker loss.
I had the same issues, graphs turning off etc. Tried all options, the only thing that worked was wiring both front and rear to the battery directly. No more problems at all!
Sounds good, I will do some digging. All wiring is orginal I have only changed out graphs nice thing that HB using all the same connections and has only started doing so recently.
with the circuit breakers, in what direction should they point in relation to the battery and reset button? i had removed mine to clean the green corrosion and my have them pointing the wrong way
It does create some resistance though not much. The circuit breakers are marked for direction. The problem exists internally on the breakers with corrosion.
gott ya. i think that is in order. been aiming to order. without looking what size do i need? 24v jumper? troll motor leed? and main cranking battery breaker?
I went direct to the battery on my 09 and my voltage was much better with no more issues

Yes, and although some may think overkill, I would run 10ga.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
