Most dont do it though some do. We like a banana spade and older automotive shops will have knowledge of those. The are a bayonet switch that you throw when the boat is not in use and they disconnect the battery. You can also go to fancier switches, though this one is simple. Home town automotive shops should have an idea on where these are available.

I have the Knife-Blad style disconnect on my boat, but i have it on the negative side of the battery per the switch manufacture recommendation. im not sure if this is right or if it even makes a difference what side of the battery its on.

A simple key activated switch connected to the battery via a copper strap works fine. Somewhere around $20.00 and can find one at most Harbor freights.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

Hey Guys I just had to replace my stator and voltage regulators on my cat. The question Im asking is ,my mechanic told me to disconnect my ( + ) positive side of the battery when not in use, is this something you guys do ? or is he just pulling my leg . I would like to hear what you guys think. Thanks Rick

NO, the tach works on pulse only and is very accurate. We suspect your over 16 volts running and that is a common description of a faulty regulator.

I replaced both regulators. Is there anything else that could be causing this?

I got the boat out on the water today with the two new voltage regulators.Tach is still off, idle rpms are over 2,000 running wide open the rpms are 9999.The volts at idle are around 14.2 to 14.4…..running wide open the volts do not really change. I saw 14.8 at one point. Boats seems to be running fine. Does this still sound like a stator issue?

The volts are within line. Someone has reset the pulse setting on the tach we feel. Those numbers do indicate a pulse setting, though the voltage regulators could have messed the settings up. It is in the BP Manual directions.

THANK YOU BASS CAT!!!!!!!! You were correct, I rest the tach, started the boat up in the driveway and rpms are where they need to be.It absolutely amazing to know that I have a boat that is 17 years old and I still receive support and help from the company.
