Im interested in buying a new jaguar double console. Im from Mexico, living in San Antonio. But Im not really sure about all the options I need. Where I fish most of the time is tough waters like Amistad lake. I fish mostly for fun, but also some weekend tournaments. I was told that the Bass Cat are one of the best (if not the best) for this kind of water any agree? or disagreements feel free to comment, I used to like the ranger Z series. Also Im kind of new with all this electronics. I like better the new HDs from lowrance than humminigbirds any comments (both with side scan)? one 10″ for console and a 7 or 5 for bow any other suggestion. also I have no clue for choosing the right trolling motor (minnkota or motorguide) and the thrust?Motor I have chosen the mercury 250 pro xs with fury propThanks. Any comment is really appreciated.Last edited by RodrigoAGutierrez on May 24th, 2010, 6:56 am, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks for your interest in Bass Cat Boats. The new Jag comes with so many standard features, there is little you will have to add to it. A 36-volt trolling motor is standard so your only choice should be Motor Guide or Minn Kota. There are pros and cons to each, and Im sure some guys from this board will chime in with their experiences with both. The Humminbird units have a lot less service issues then Lowrance and Humminbird offers better customer service; however, we sell a lot of the Lowrance units and most customers seem happy with those units as well. My experience with the HDS units is that they are good units and offer the same great off-shore quality that Lowrance has always offered. The downside of me is that they are extremely SLOW to load. Good luck on your search! The people on this board will be invaluable to you as you seek to build the right boat for you.Andy GreeneGreene Boat & MotorAndy Greene Greene Boat & Motor 828-286-2290 http://www.greeneboats.com
We can have a BCB Representative from Texas in touch if you like. There are two on staff Reps out of Houston area. They would be glad to walk you through the process from electronics to trolling motors they can see what your personal needs are. The Birds are as explained, and the Lowrance units are a matter of preferences. As foir MK or MG trollers, that again is up to you. We like both and since you are Mexican in San Antonio, service could be an issue with either and we have no like, dislikes there. Most BCB models go Motorguide, though Minn Kota is fine as well. Of course we are biased on the ride, and the Jaguar is the largest boat in its category today. It borders being almost too large and we really pressed the envelope on the decks, storage and details. You can not select a rig with more standard equipment than a Jaguar, though we felt when you buy a Mercedes or Bentley you dont ask for options. They are already on the vehicle and a Jaguar is no different. If you need those contact numbers, email [email protected] and they will be glad to help! Thank you for considering a BCB model! Having fished Amistad and Falcon frequently, I can tell you that the Jaguar is the perfect choice for those lakes as they both catch more wind than the average lake and both being so large, they can get very rough in a hurry. Also, because most of your fishing will be done in open water, theres no need for a smaller boat to get into tight places. The bigger the boat, the better, on those 2 lakes. Bass Cat makes the strongest boat on the market in my opinion. They are the only bass boat manufacturer to use the vacuum process when attaching the top cap to the hull. This process increases the overall strength of the boat substantially. They also have the strongest transom in the industry. There is a picture floating around out there that shows a motor that was completely ripped off of a Bass Cat when the driver hit a stump, but the transom is still totally intact. They also use the best materials in the business and you will see that when you see a 10 year old Bass Cat that looks like its still brand new. The carpet, gel coat, etc… are all of the highest quality and you can definitely see the difference when your boat gets some age on it.As for your electronics choices, I would personally go with Humminbird as they have proven to be a more reliable unit for the last few years. For trolling motors, that one is about dead even if you ask me. The one thing that I feel is a necessity though is to get a trolling motor with a long shaft for those lakes because when it gets rough, and it will, you need that extra length to keep your prop in the water while your boat is bouncing up and down.If Motor Guide, get the 50″ shaft. If Minn Kota, get the 52″ shaft.
If you any information or have questions please send me an e-mail. I am one of the reps in Texas and would be glad to help you any way I can.Mike Lott
