im wanting a new larger screen depth finder. I have about $1,000 budget. My current depth finder is a Lowrance LCX-28c he. My boat is a 2003 cougar. New used, thoughts?
So by the looks the two I looked up price wise with 9” diagonal screen is the Lowrance 9 Ti -3-1 or the Hook 2-9 triple shot. Both have SI and under $1000- the humminbird is well over 1000- I’m new to the retail end of electronics- bug I’ve been installing them for awhile.
I would look hard at lightly used units. Seems that they are being tossed away like the new I phone just dropped. I had hb onix units, and the si was great. I did have to send them off to hb 3 times before they were right and hear alot of reports (guys at the ramp) sending in their helix 9’s. I just got duel hds 9s gen 3 on my 17 puma. So far I’m pretty impressed with them. The DI and 2d is better than my old birds. But the maps on the lowrance are lacking. I guess for your budget I would be looking at helix 9’s and lowrance hds 9s either gen 2 or 3. Decision would pend on price/ and use. If your local lakes have the HD lake master charts I would lean towards the HB. Side scan is better on the newer helix units if you get a mega transducer. I do like the functionality of my lowrance units now after having them a while.
