This is what happens when you try to avoid hitting a deer on a two lane hwy. with no shoulder on the road ! My driver is o.k., but will miss a few weeks work. This is why i buy Peterbilts. The drivers compartment held up to a full “on top”, greasy side up rollover, that is impressive. Both driver and his wife(who is my lead driver) have said after this that all they will drive is a Peterbilt. I dont blame them ! He was on this run by himself, in her truck because his was in the shop ! She says nobody will ever drive her truck again ! What really hurts is this truck had a 550 HP C15 CAT pre-emissions engine, which is not available anymore. I guess ill be running a Cummins in the next one. Thank God hes ok! I hear those babies are costing 1800 for a tank of gas now — I dont know how much longer this can go. I know its instinct, but I hope the next time some dumb animal runs in front of me I put it under the truck instead of almost killing myself trying to avoid it. Except if I was in moose country that is.

Safest truck on the road is a Volvo, Those pre-emission engines are hot! The new twin turbos are really getting a bad rap. Cummins engines have been pretty solid performers for us however some of the EGR valves & sensors have been giving us a few issues, the new detroits seem to have been eating turbos but overall not so bad, …I can help you find another truck of any make or model if your looking for one, I run truck dealership if you need a replacement shoot me an email at [url=mailto:[email protected]][email protected][/url] Ill take care of a fellow BassCat guy!

I hate to ask, but why, why, why in the world would someone swerve from hitting a deer in a rig that size? I would have plowed it over and kept on truckin, unless i clipped it then backstraps may have been salvageable. In all serious though that sucks them rigs aint cheap.

i appreciate the offer dmov, but i buy new now. I have run some of the most dated trucks in the world growing up, and when i finally bought a new Peterbilt in 99 i learned the value of warranty, service, and exactly what “pride in ownership” really meant. i usually buy a truck and keep it,,,forever,,,,. I service engines @ 10,000mi. grease every 5,000mi, and use only quality oils and lubricants. I found the Petes are for a lifetime if well cared for, as i still have a 79 model 359 that is still capable of otr service ! D.

I think going with the cummins is great move. You going to go with a 389 or 387? Owing a truck for a lifetime is really the only way to really get your money out of it! I wish more people did more preventative maintaince at shorter invertals rather than pushing the limits to 25k or 30k! I have a family friend who runs a Pete dealership, I think i can help you with the purchase of a new one and save you some $$$$$$$$$ use my email in the previous post and i can explain more.
