2018 Erya; getting water in dry side of ice chest/food box everytime it rains; even got some in it when out fishing in waves coming over bow. Very aggrivating. Any help appreciated. Cant see that a loose rivet would allow that much coming in; could it be coming from pole post holes??? Thanks in advance. Rick V
I get some water in mine (17 Eyra) also, could it come over from the cooler side with ice in it that melts and splashes over? I don’t ever put anything on that side so it’s never bothered me and I’ve never really paid much attention to it. Where are you fishing that you have waves that big coming over the bow? That’s some huge waves.
If you have ice/water mix in cooler side, it will spill over into the sandwich side. Solution? leave the drain plug out so theres nothing but ice, or get some of the frozen gel packs. If you put the frozen gel packs in, then ice, the ice will last MUCH longer. Personally, I use the cooler for a day box…holds a hand towel, nippers, line conditioner, etc. Cooler side holds my Helix 10 rubber cover and small plano boxes for hooks/weights. I keep a Yeti Flip 12 for food/drink either under the passenger console (if alone), or in the starboard rod box.The built in cooler works OK, but its no Yeti.Last edited by Midnight Rider on June 10th, 2018, 7:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.
No ice on other side i use reusable blocks; as for waves toledo and rayburn; no plug on the left hand side as its meant to be dry. Rim seal is fine as far as i csn tell .
I would say put a brown paper bag in the box of concern. Dump a gallon of water all at once over that lid. Wait a few minutes. Lift the lid. See where water has landed on the bag. This should help pinpoint water intrusion.
I had the same problem and I just glued an extra layer of the foam to the lid rather than trying to double up on the seal. This makes it watertight and doesn’t put any extra stress on the hinges. I have not had water in it since.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do the water dump check as mentioned above. This will help locate the source and place of entry. The new latches normally seal well, but water may be coming thru the latch itself.
No need to go out of your way checking. The Eyra is a fantastic Hull and overall fishing platform. However, the Center step ice chest leaves much to be desired. There is no way to stop water from getting into the dry side if you fish in the rain or waves are coming over the bow on to the deck. As stated above if you leave the plug in the wet side and the ice melts then the water will slosh over to the dry side and there is no way to get it out. The “dry” side needs a drain at minimum and even better for my uses would be to remove the divider as it serves very little purpose and cuts down considerably on the ice chest size. It is very frustrating as just about everything else about the rig is perfect and it would seem to be such an easy fix. Not a big enough deal to stop me from getting another one though. Ill be picking my new one up in about 20 days! Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
That being said, there was consideration to remove the sandwich side and only have one large cooler. This style was first used in the P2 and Sabre FTD models and we hear limited issues with those is reduced order of performance. Thus we feel the increased performance of the Eyra has more to do with it than anything. As you go faster it seems to get more on the sandwich side.
Speaking of Yeti why hasn’t a boat manufacture partnered with one of the cooler manufacture to either build a cooler for there boat or make a spot where a certain size cooler can be mounted and removed. I mean someone is ultimelty going to do it. The insulation on the coolers now leaves allot to be desired. I to have an Eyra but when you pull the plug the hot air from the hull melts the ice twice as fast. My solution was to drill 2 small drain holes on the sand which side. I do however like the ideal of completely removing that side.
