Water Logged Transom on 08 Sabre FTD?????? Possibly

Today I started the process of replacing the bad transducer (Humminbird sent me a new one free of charge) in the hull of my 08 Sabre FTD. My humminbird unit has 2 cables coming out of the transducer puck, 1 for the transducer, 1 for the temp probe. The temp probe cable is routed thru the rigging boot then behind the jack plate and secured with a stainless screw just above the hull step. I removed the 3/4 inch long screw securing the zip tie for the temp probe. That was around 2:00 this afternoon. It now 8:50 and what looks like water has been weeping/dripping from that hole since 2:00. The liquid is clear and watery but has a very distinct fiberglass resin smell. The hole does not go all the way through to the bilge area. I am completely baffled about this, is it possible that the hull is water logged or is there some other explaination. I have ownd the boat for 13 months, bought July 08. Any and all help/advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

Did you do the install or was it rigged at the factory? Just curious.

Factory rigged, 787C2. Just went out to check and its still dripping. There has to be some logical explaination for this. No way there is that much water in the transom thats just over 1 year old. Additionally my boat is always garaged when not in use.

Ill be interested to see what the outcome is on this, besides myself I know of another 08 Sabre FTD rigged the same way. Good luck.

Yeah, I am sitting here refreshing the webpage every few mins to see what the family has to offer on this one. The other thing about this is that marine sealant was used in the hole and around the screw.

It is possible that there is some potential of an area in a small chamber of about 1″ x 1/2″ running across the lower 3 or so of the transom where water could gather. It would be a minimal amount in that area. It is right at the base of the transom. It is not a threat as your hull is all glass and the chambers are individual compartments. We would prefer a dealer to look at this, though it sounds like a screw might have wept in that area. This is a common reason we do not tie everything to a transom and reduce areas under water. The seal only has to have someone pull on a wire to possibly be compromised. Though with the all glass models the issues are limited. BCB

BCB, thanks for the explaination. Makes me feel somewhat better. I am going to leave it to dry over the next few days before putting the temp probe back on.

Never thought about getting out the measuring cup……. just messin with you BCB! Given that my dealer is 3 hours away I will opt to let it dry then re-apply marine sealant and put is back together. Also be on the look out for a tandem fender order, fellow club member back me in the lake yesterday morning for a tournament then parked the truck. It was still dark and the windows are tinted…..result, my right fender made friends with a Chevy Silverado tire. End state, my fender has about a 5 inch crack on the rear corner and the truck tire nothing. Thanks again
