I have a Sabre FTD with Mercury Optimax ProXS. I am wondering at 50-60+ with throttle open for this speed range (not to floor) what should a good pressure reading be?
I had serious water pressure issue with my Sabre and 175 pro xs. It didnt matter what trim level I was at or how I set the jack plate or how fast I was running, I seldom saw better than 12 psi most times around 10psi. We fixed this issue with my outboard by adding mercury oem water scoops. now the pressure is in the 16- 20 psi range no matter what I do or how I run it.
Don Weed at European Marine sells them. Go to the Mercury board on Bass Boat Central and you will find a few posts discussing it, as well as a pictorial of the install.
I installed the QuickSilver water inlet kit and it has dramatically increased my water pressure. Idling in forward gear will keep needle between 0 & 5 psi. At any additional speed it is always much higher. I have not had it at WOT but imagine that 20+ is easily possible.
Water pressure on an Optimax/ProXS is 1-3 psi at idle and 12 minimum at WOT. 15 is better. There are no other published limits. If you get the required minimum at WOT then you are good at the intermediate RPMs.RH
