Would an 09 Puma FTD with Mercury 250 Pro XS running a 26 Fury or 26 Tempest Plus with 10 inch Bobs hydraulic jack plate need wedges between the jackplate and transom to assist with hole shot? Thanks in advance for any information.
Could there be any difficulty with using transom wedges on this boat to assist with hole shot?
Corky, You should not need wedges on the hole shot. These became more popular with one particular brand of boat today, not a BCB, from a hull issue. A 10″ plate is not needed, and would gain little and effect warranty also. BCB
Thank you Bass Cat. The jackplate is a Bobs 8 inch hydraulic plate installed at Bass Cat, not a 10 inch plate as I originally posted. I am sorry about the mistake. I take it that wedges would not be needed for an 8 inch hydraulic plate either. It is very nice to be able to come on this board to get assitance. I appreciate your feedback.
Should not have any problems with hole shot with a 26 Fury, best prop made for a bass boat, bar none!!!BAYOU BANDIT
Corky, We became aware of what your have there this morning when we could research it. We have gotten our area Representative involved and will coordinate with Mercury and the local dealership as we best can. First conversation has been had with the Rep and Merc. How this will progress we dont know, though we will move the ball! BCB
First of all, I must say that I am impressed both that you even know who I am and are taking the time to address this issue. I have done many of months of research on Bass Cat in general and this particular boat specifically, and I know for a fact that you guys build one heck of a boat. I do not know how this will progress either, but I am thrilled that you guys are going to “move the ball.” Whatever the outcome, I really like your boat, and I have been most impressed with representatives of your company with whom I have spoken. I thank you for the time you have spent in delivering high quality customer service. Corky
I cant imagine any boat where a “wedge” would help hole-shot. Unless you install em upside-down (fat end at the top). After all, who takes off with the motor trimmed all the way up? So why would you want _more_ up trim on take-off? I once saw a custom boat where the transom was at a abnormally raked-back angle, so that the motor would not trim up to vertical due to lack of trim range. But I have never seen a bass boat that went that extreme…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
OT57, Wedges have been used by one or two brands to improve lower performance and prevent porpoising. There is one particular brand lately that was forced to use them to compensate for an error in design. There are no errors in design on this one, so something is up! The use of wedges began in the early mid 70s as OMC and Mercury had different trim tuck ranges on the outboards, and OMC engine require the wedges. Then they were used to put larger V-6 blocks on small hulls which porpoised with the weight on the rear. This was all designed out in the early to mid 80s till recently. Lately they are to compensate for other mistakes. They should be all over this one and taking another direction OT57! BCB
……………that BCB is talking about; well at least one of them. Had them on mine, helped and the boat ran better. But, it was a band-aid when a tourniquet was needed. Still loyal to the brand ( or what is left ),,,, but found a better builder and am happy! BTW……………those wedges will tear your transom up! You may not think so, but give them 5 years and you will be replacing the transom. Plus you will be tightening bolts after every trip!
