What kind of cranking battery are you guys running? I have a 2010 Pro XS on a Pantera II w/ 2 998 graphs and one single PP. It currently has a group 29 size and havent had any problems until recently and it time to change it out. Not many options around here but Interstate, walmart, Sams, academy, car part chain stores and Bass Pro. Sears has stopped making the PM-1 so that out also, not to mention I dont wanna fork out $400 on a battery!
Full River, Trojan, Deka, Interstate and many other AGM series. Just be sure it is an AGM series and 31 size and you should be fine. We are not fans of the spiral cell technology.
Never heard of Full River Batteries, but this one seems as beastly as they come.http://www.fullriverbattery.com/product/batteries/HC110Anyone have any experience with these batteries?
The Napa 9833 is the same as the Deka Intimanator. Im about to buy one myself. Group 31 AGM with 200 RC, 800 CCA at 0 degrees F and 1,000 CA at 32 degrees. $230
How many years did you get out of your 29 series? I have a 07 Classic/200 Opti and Im looking to go to 29 or 31 (just got my larger aluminum tray from BCB) but my single bank charger only 2 years old will not work on AGM so Im looking at flooded or GM. I do not have a PP, tournament fish much, or have newer power eating electronics so Im thinking 29 or 31 series but flooded. I know its old school (hey Im old) but I have never had issues with flooded batteries unless a charger failed or I had to small of a battery to begin with (27 series dual purpose). I do plug in chargers within half hour to an hour after I get off the water which I think helps. My first 27 series (Autozone marine) lasted 4-5 seasons but expired when charger died over the winter and I didnt know. Only got 2 season out of 2nd exact same battery when I was starting to get alarms which dealer found were for low voltage. Alarms only sounded at idle or no wake speeds. Motor always started however. Last year started having a problem with LCX-27 shutting off when I started engine sometimes. Again no other issues but I but do not want to take a chance getting stranded so going to replace the battery with something larger. Dealer, Merc, and BCB all recommend cranking vs. dual purpose though Id think the dual purpose would handle running electronics, live wells, etc. better. Mine have always provided enough juice to start motor even on cold mornings but it starts pretty quick 99.5% of the time. What type of problems were you having with the 29?
Just switched from a Group 24 Interstate to a SAMs.. Duracell 31DTMAGM, and I absolutely love it. Its AGM and has plenty reserve to keep my electronics and cranking ability up all day. I had to switch out the tray and ordered one from the BCB store that would accomadate it. So far its held up great, but now the trolling motor batterys are dying
We tested one pair (set) of Full River batteries over 3.5 years running a High electronics use boat, one 24 volt trolling motor and cranking with sharing the 12 volt cranking duty. They lasted great and were removed from service to be thoroughly tested. They are probably the best AGM we have used to date. Trojans are good as are many others, though the Full River series worked great. A private label series of Full River is coming out soon under independent labels. Same quality battery, without the label.
Northstar
Sears makes a good marine battery.
Deka 27 M6, 840 CCA 1050 MCA and 180 RC. Best part is it wont cost you $200 either
