Fished our end of year championship yesterday and we made it to the scales with 19.14 on Cross Lake in Shreveport (notoriously stingy lake). We culled our last fish at around 1:30 and all 5 of our keepers were in great shape. The weigh in site was at a boat dealership approximately 20 minutes from the lake. As I opened the live well the first thing I saw was a fish belly up. I didnt get too upset at first because I thought we only had 16-17lbs. As we weighed in our fish 19 popped up on the scales and then it was announced we would have to incur a 1lb penalty for a final total of 18.14. Someone from the crowd moaned aw man thats gonna cost you! Well it did cost us to the tune of $5K!!! We went from 1st to 2nd by .47 and our check went from $8K to $3K. Ive never been so disappointed in winning $3K in my life. Has this ever happened to any of you? Im going to the bathroom to throw up again. Tony D2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS

Shame of the promoters for having you all transport the fish to weigh them in. Even with the best systems there is stress on the fish. I lived up there and fished Cross, Caddo etc…and that water is hot already… Sorry for the drop from 1st to 2nd
Most events check health of the fish before they subject them to a 100 degree plus road trip. Road trips on asphalt are all bets off with the increased stress. Health at the lake is the condition that should count as ice is required on road trips to keep them healthy. They should provide ice for transportation. If one is already stressed it increases odds for mortality. There is only recirculation and temps increase which increases stress.Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on August 14th, 2016, 11:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.
If you fish enough tournaments youll have those days!! Hopefully itll even out one day for you.
The new oxygen system available on the 2017 Premium models would be handy to help something like that. May not saved the life of that fish in those conditions but sure coulda helped matters.
Not me personally, but for my Dad a lost 3 lber at the boat in the last hour of the B.A.S.S. Federation Nationals cost him 1st place and a trip to the BASS MASTERS CLASSIC back in the 90s.As it was he finished 2nd, but back then they took the winner of each of the four divisions (North , South, East and West), so his 2nd place finish meant nothing since the winner was from the Southern Division also.
INeed and BCB – I never thought of it from that angle. If they had checked the fish at the ramp as we loaded up Im positive they would have all been alive. Oh well, I guess I should have bought a bag of ice as we left the lake. May have made a difference. AUTimbo – your Dad had much more on the line than I did so that would have been tougher to swallow. Im just glad to end the years trail on a strong note.2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
I was fishing in a 2 day tourney back in the 80s and a Chevrolet 1/2 ton Pickup was 1st place. Only had 1 2lb. fish the 1st day so I didnt carry it to weigh-in.On the 2nd day I caught a 30 lb. string and missed the truck by 4 ounces.Johnny
I dont fish any big money stuff but Ive had my Club AOY winning fish on the last day of our last tournament 2 different years and lost it. One year I tied for AOY points but lost it on a tie breaker and the other I lost AOY by 1 point. When its your turn you cant lose a fish if you try. Ive had my turn a couple of times but been on the other end a few as well. As far as money, I cant recall losing a fish that cost me big in the couple of circuits I used to fish.
