Wheel Wobble

I was sitting in the boat while being pulled out of the water the other day and I looked down and the front wheel on my trailer was wobbling. Going in and out while rolling. I jacked it up and sure enough it does not spin straight. There is no play in the wheel if you try to move it while off the ground. I removed the wheel and spun the hub and it is the same. Everything feels tight but it just doesnt spin true. Would that be the bearing or the spindle? Does the axle need replacing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the axle was not aligned or straight it would not wobble just be out of alignment. Strongly suspect bearings. #1, I would not use this trailer until the cause is determined. #2, replacing the bearings is relatively cheap and easy and then re-asess.Irv

We suspect bearings though check for a bent wheel also.

One other possibility is a tire, especially if it is starting to separate.

It must be the bearings. I am going to order new bearings and seals for all four wheels from Pete on Tuesday. I dont think they have been touched since new and I know that some of the other seals have failed as evidenced by water inside the bearing buddy. Hopefully new bearings will put an end to it as I am making the 500 mile trip to Bull Shoals at the end of next month.

You may have a bearing out and you may not need to replace all the bearings, though cleaed, greased and seals are a must.

I got the new bearings, races, and seals from Pete today. I took everything apart and both bearings were perfectly fine. No signs of overheating or failure. It does appear however that the rear hole was not bored at the center of the hub. It looked like the rear race was out of center and on closer inspection the outer rim is thicker on one side than the other confirming the offcenter bore. It must have been this way since it was new unless the first owner replaced the hub at some point. I have to get a new hub now. Seems like UFP ought to give me a free one but I wont hold my breath. I have a tournament this weekend so I may just put it back together until I can get the new hub. I never would have thought that could be the issue.
