Where, is that fish?

Ok guys help me out a little bit. While watching the graph this morning (Lowrance X135) Which if Im not mistaken just scans downward in a 60* cone?Does it sweep through the cone (like in a circular motion) or just straight down?I could see fish on the graph (rather large arcs holding behind a drop off) which makes it a little easier to find the correct spot to throw at, knowing where the drop off was. However when the area was mostly flat I could not decide exactly which side of the boat to throw on…. lol Ive never had newer graphs before (even though these are outdated themselves) the ones I had before are almost as old as I am… 13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods

I dont know what the x135 has but a 83kHz is a 60 degree cone. A 200kHz is a much narrower cone which will show pretty much only whats under it but in more detail.A 60 degree cone basically has a diameter the same as the depth (20deep = 20 diameter cone)It sends a signal straight down (so to speak) like a cross-section of the cone but does it so fast and many times its almost constant, it doesnt sweep the cone. You wont know what side of the boat the fish is on.But as the fish moves more directly under the transducer the signal will become stronger and the fish will look more pronounced.

We seldom see 60 degree cones used in the bass market. Is it possible you have a 20 degree cone?

Try drop shooting, it is the best way to learn and grow confidence in what you are seeing on a graph.

Thanks guys. I trolled around some points yesterday where I knew there would be drastic changes in bottom contour. I could look at the point & tell about where the line or top of the hump should be underwater, and the direction it should run & watched the graph in relation to where I was & where I had been. Kinda helped me out a good bit actually.Then I drug my trusty Carolina rig around some & found it again just by feel.
