Which Talon bracket

I recently bought a 2005 puma and will be mounting a talon. I have a manual plate with 3 inch setback and am thinking of going with the sandwich style bracket between the motor and jack plate. Im wondering the bracket setback others have used with a similar setup. Thanks and happy holidays!!!

Why go with the sandwich style? I have the bracket that mounts to the side of the jackplate and it works fine and was easy to install. I was advised on this board to go with the 9 inch setback for my PIV and am glad that I did. The 9 inch setback gives you a little room between the bracket and the hull itself so I can get in behind it and clean the scum line etc… All in all I am very happy with the Talon.

Thanks for the input. I was researching the subject on this board and see that the side mount is very popular with manual plates. I think that I will go that way with the 9 inch set back…much easier to install. When I sold my last boat, the buyer didnt want the Talon so I kept it. I wouldnt fish without a shallow water anchor now and the Talon has served my needs very well.

If you go with the side plate then you want 9″…. I have a 6″ JP and the 6″ set back bracket would put you up against the rail. A 9″ bracket gives you roughly 3″ space between the rail and the bracket… so with a 3″ JP you should end up with a 1.5″ space between the rail and bracket with a 9″ bracket. Hope that makes sense

Dont rub it in!! 25 here today with about a foot of snow on the ground. Ice fishing is supposed to be good now though…mainly crappies. Funny you should mention it, dad and I are giving the OI serious consideration. Fished lake of the ozarks a couple days when I came down to pick up the boat and really enjoyed it. Id love to see all those cats too!!

Talon brackets have been redesigned to swivel/adjust for setback. For a side mount you get either port or starboard, then adjust what you need. This is the one I would suggest as you dont have to swing the motor and worry about breaking the silicone seal on the motor mount bolts, and if the motor mount bolts will be long enough to add the extra 1/2 inch plate.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

JonesTroll is correct. Minn Kota just launched a new adjustable mount.
