I wanted to show this engineering excellence in design. This is the piece of open cell furniture foam that shifted behind my floor drain that kept water from flowing to the bilge and flooded the floor in the rain. I found it by removing the drain cover and sticking my hand to the rear of the boat. When I pulled it out, it was saturated with water in a cheap plastic garbage bag with holes in it and a rusty twist tie. I put it in a bag just like what I found it in to show you what is down there. I removed it and never did something more. I rarely fish bad weather don’t spear waves and keep my auto bilge pump on when I use the boat. Unacceptable!!!!
I understand the frustration, but didn’t you buy this rig used? Because, some of the issues might not be Bass Cat’s fault…could’ve been the previous owner(s). The foam in the bag looks like a DIY solution. The loose carpet could be from running cables or rods in and out. Doesn’t seem fair to call the company out these issues on a used rig. Even so, BCB is a pretty great company…might catch more flies with honey than vinegar. (Although, as per Woody Boyd, you catch the most flies with dead squirrels.)
I’m guessing they’d help you troubleshoot this if you gave them the chance.
I’m also curious why the hull repair wasn’t disclosed on the for sale listings for this boat?
Obviously your continuing to express your unwavering opinion that our engineering team is insufficient. You have pointed out Some inadequacies and also several issues relating to previous ownerships we assume. Yes, we get that you disagree and we believe we could find similar inadequacies in every product made. Why do our vehicles waste so much space in the center console area for example. Yes it houses a brain box on most, though not that large. And god bless those who have to access certain areas
The last little foam block picture, We assume, is intended to embarrass us into a words struggle match with you. First that block is not built to the design, nor is the plastic the intended compression technique. It does appear someone in a final process redesigned the Part and install on this boat.
Foam parts similar to this are a process used by many companies for various aspects, and yes often they become sacrificial once compromised. This part was compromised as the water was not drained and it eventually became water logged. The process is no longer used, and this part is not done properly. Not unlike any other company someone reinvented a simple part obviously, trying to in their minds improve. Yes, we have people too.
Whether it’s the foam strip in a rat guard on a metal building, cowling compression foam on a tractor, radiator seal on many lawn and garden parts. And why can’t they come up with an air filter that doesn’t degrade into gunk after a couple of years.
If we had a chance to look at the jobs of many of you we certainly would question those thought processes in those designs. We all do it every day, we just don’t all see the need to be so vocal.
Gosh why are garages always so short anyway? Can’t even put a mid sized SUV in many and get around.

I generally dont speak on these kinda threads. Though the foam block is there as a preventive to prevent water sloshing to the front upon stops when water is in the bilge area. I had issues with m8ning stopping my cooler drain up and causing my carpet to stay wet on the passenger side. I removed my foam as well. I changed the drain design to my liking. No biggie. I just remember when its raining i always turn my pump on to remove excess water.
Sure i see things that “could be changed’. But as BCB stated many things could be changed in other aspects as well. Ive owned BCB boats(2) since 1989 ,yes 2 boats no others. Are they perfect? No. If i was buying tommorrow it would have Cat on it. The quality and CS above most brands.
Im active on other forums as well as this one and vist other makers often. I can tell i read complaints all the time. ‘This could, that could”. In reality no boat is perfect!. But BCB as close as it gets for my style.
I think we have all had some bad experiences regarding any item that a man has made. I had a “walleye” boat that was supposedly designed and manufactured by a gentleman that was supposed to be the know all. After owning that boat for a while, the front deck become compromised and I had to replace it. Turns out that someone forgot to encapsulate the marine grade plywood that was used for the front deck floor. Right under it was a 48″ livewell, and you get the picture. That wood was always wet. I had another boat that those that built it decided it was ok to leave portions of the fiberglass unfinished even though it was storage. Really nice to get a bunch of fiberglass cuts each and every time that I pulled out a fishing pole or something that was stored in there. As I age I realize that life is way too short to sweat some of the small things. If I buy something that is not up to my standards, well I get rid of it, and go with another brand. If it’s too expensive I learn to use it the best that I can for as long as I can until I finally replace it. Most items now will last a very long time. I have some rods and reels over 30 years old, stereo speakers 40+ years old, etc. Ever look at the life span of those appliances in your home and wonder how they can convince you to spend more than you need to on something that will need either replacing or repair work after 10 years or less. I have had trucks that have over 200,000 miles and still function very well, but that stove or dryer or dishwasher that your replacing now, and some of them you only use maybe 2 times a week. That I shake my head at. However none of it compares to those days when you just stop and stare at the majesty of your surroundings and give thanks for what blessings you have, are about to receive, and share. That truly is what life is about.
They have a response coming to J. on the reason for his original statement. Apparently a staffer, who is no longer in our midst, responded inadequately when he inquired on a topic during a tour. Which eventually generated the eventual memo on line in his response.
we will lock this thread now.
