About every six years or so my wife lets me get a new boat. I know. Im lucky. Last year I did what I always do. I said to myself “Im going to be objective” I picked what I believed to be the top two or three brands and went to drive them and fish out of them. Things change so I want to keep an open mind. All three of my candidates could be driven in the Mountain Home area so I flew in. I spent an entire day with Jason, Ivan and Rick. Rick was trimming the hedges in front of the office. Yep, trimming the hedges. He stops with trimmings all over his face, asks an employee to grab some resin samples and proceeds to spend 3 1/2 hours talking with me about everything from bass fishing history to boat construction to the latest Bass Cat projects. I drive the other two brands and come to ask if I can drive the Puma FTD one more time. “Yep. No problem” is the answer. Back to the lake we go. As I leave (feeling like Ive been a real pain in the butt) Rick and Ivan tell me “Danny, You need to buy the brand that fits you best. Regardless, if you ever need something dont hesitate to call”.Ill probably be at Sherms this weekend talking about my 2014 Puma FTD. Its in my garage here at home. Ill probably email Phil Addison or someone else on the forum to get prop advice or God knows what. Yes Ive received my hand written letter from Rick recounting just about every detail we talked about last summer. And yes, I kinda miss my 2008 Puma. Thats my point guys. Even when I try real hard to “be objective”, to “be open minded” theres just no way I can leave Bass Cat. The quality, performance and support cant be touched and yes, it really is a family.
All of the above you have already stated and given the support that you will get makes them head and shoulders above all other brands !!! Buy a Bass Cat, you will not go wrong !!! Good Luck with your decision !! Joey
Customer service and support is the best in the industry, plus all the other reasons already stated. Ride, performance, fishability, safety, and comfort are all above average when compared. Best to ride in boats you may be interested in and decide for yourself, then you will also be a dedicated “family member” ! Good luck, and if i can help let me know, D.
Everything that has already been stated plus I would also add build quality like vacuum compression, all fiberglass (not composite but all fiberglass) construction and a lifetime “transferable” hull warranty. This alone is enought to put Bass Cat on top of the other brands but what really puts the Cat family ahead of all competitors is customer service and “actually” being part of the family. Most other manufactures say you are part of a family but in reality you are just a part of the family if dont have a boat that is older than two years. With Bass Cat you will always be family no matter how long you own your boat. Plus, the owner of the company (Rick Peirce) post on here all the time and is very active with us family members. The best example I have ever seen of this happened a couple of days ago on the Bass Boat Central forum. Steven purchased a 2005 FTD from Sherm at Sherms Marine and he wanted to add the 2nd console before he took delivery. Bass Cat is in the process of building him one right now but have not gotten it to him yet. Anyway, he gets on the forum and writes a little rhyme joking about how he cant wait for the console to get done so he can finally get his boat pleading with BCB to hurry up. All in fun and really funny. Well, a couple days later Rick Pierce, himself, makes a rhyme up himself and posts it on the Bass Boat Central forum. It was hilarious and really solidified my decision to never own another brand again. Rick is very busy, but still finds time to “horse around” with all the family members. You cant put a value on that. Actually that was written by another member of our staff, it was not Ricks handywork. It is very creative and top shelf. BCB
You will experience a fully loaded rough water ride like none other you have ever experienced among other things.
A few weeks ago I got into some 6-7 waves on Kentucky Lake I have a Cougar FTD, after getting accross the lake back in the marina I knew “Why BassCat”. Handled the tough water with no problem.
I own a 2004 Cougar and love it. This lake I live on puts a major test on a boat. The ride is excellent and dry in the worst of condition. I fish in and out of docks and never have less than 6 to 8 rods on my deck with plenty of room to fish. If you choose a Bass Cat I would highly recommend a Cougar Oh one more thing the performance from the hole shot to top end is outstanding with or without a load.
I have been in the Bass Cat Family (Sabre) for just a few months and this will be my first post here. We looked at most of the top brands. I have to agree with what the others say and add that they are fine boats all the way around. As I go along I am continually finding things that I appreciate about the boat. Some things that really impress are the quality, walk around on the decks and notice that there does not seem to be any movement, just feels solid, head out across a rough lake and again just feels solid. Feel around the edges of the compartments and bilge area and notice it is pretty well finished out with the Bilge area clean and laid out for easy access. Look up under the driver console and notice everything is clean and in place. I for one really appreciate the fact that I can visually confirm how much fuel I have. In addition to the boats, look carefully at the trailers, larger tires/wheels than most, led lights, heavy double rollers up front, two pins in the swing away that really locks solid. Look at some of the trailers on other boats, you may have a hard time finding one built as well. Set up on the front deck and notice how far you set out over the bow, it gives you a good view of what is below you and though it may be perception it seems to assist in making the boat easy to manuever along with putting you further away from the rear angler. Another thing and it may seem small to some, but a few weeks after we got the boat, we got a hand written thank you from Rick Pierce at BCB. Not some standard printed card that most companies send, Heck most places seem to have lost the art of handwritting. It give the feeling that they do appreciate my business and maybe they will treat me the way they should so that one of these years, when I get ready for another boat, BCB will have an above average chance at my business again. Really though what you get is that you have the opportunity to do business with a small family company that really seems to appreciate their customers. From the way the boats are layed out, they seem to be built and designed by fisherman. If you have a question you can call up there and get someone on the phone that actually builds the boats and can give you a serious answer. It seems like with so many things, we have to deal with corporations where the customer is absolutely nothing but a number. I am glad that at least my boat comes from a company that I think appreciates my business. Heck it just gives me a good feeling and I am proud to recommend them.
I agree with all the posts and will add a few small things. Ron, Rick and there entire staff are very open honest people when dealing with you about a problem or question. You will find they make you feel like you are really part of a family and just borrowing a boat from them. Read any post on here and unless it is about football everyone on here is very respectful to each other and willing to help each other out. I will also say this is the very first owners board I have ever read when a person posts something about another brand such as Ranger, Triton Champion etc Ron will be the first to say they are very fine built boats instead of bashing another brand he points out they are sturdy and reliable. BCB lets there product speak for its self instead of trying to tell you this is the greatest boat on the market they show you when you own one. You can post a question about any problem you are having and BCB will make sure to get it handled instead of just brushing you off with a dealer and ingnoring you in hopes you wil go away. To win as many J.D Power Awards for customer service does not come with out a price they had to be willing to stand behing each and every boat and put our needs first just to keep each and every one of us happy and they have done a awesome job doing it. When some companies win an award they get lazy and usually do not win them several times. BCB won the first won and it lit a fire in them to win it every year like atitle and to never lose it and that is awesome. Buy one and you will never look at another boat the same. I love to here others complain about a problem they are having with another brand of boat and you tell them call the factory and they say they have called and the factory refers them to there dealer instead of trying to assist in any way. Here they try to help you on here first then over the phone and then the dealership for the repairs. When you get to a dealership most times they are aware of your problem because they were notified that you are coming. Try getting that kind of service any other place. Service after the sale should be one of your biggest concerns when you purchase because you need to know that if there is a problem it will be handled and that is a promise BCB will give you and stand behind it.Last edited by Ok Bigbass on November 19th, 2007, 5:33 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Yep, Those guys are simply the best!!! I can not think of another boat manufacturer that gives that kind of service and yes I have also been a pain and at no time did I get less than their complete best. Joe Riley
You hit the nail on the head. Service with BCB cant be beat. I own a 2014 Puma FTD and love it. I run a 26p Fury on a 250 Pro XS. Have one 8 Power Pole (Blade). The boat handles great, rides great, fishes great, and yes its fast. I cant think of anything I dont like about it. I have a standard jackplate and havent moved it as I dont think it needs it. Tourny loaded, 2 people, livewells full, etc., itll runs 79.0 at 5850 rpms. By myself with all my gear and empty livewells, I run 81.5. Phil Addison can tell you a lot more than me about setup. This is my first Cat.
Bought a Pantera Classic in 96, my first boat. Got out of fishing to do the family thing, got bak in 2 years ago, and am on my second Cat, now in a 13 Eyra. Considered other brands BRIEFLY and went back to the Kitties. Hard to beat in many aspects!!Linc W
