I have also been having problems with the Touch Pad on my Pantera Classic: bilge pump works when it wants to so Im hesitant to fish in the rain; livewell aerator timer fails, fish die in summertime water temps causing DQ at tournaments, running lights unpredictable but no citations yet from DNR (thank you Lord).I have read an abundance of similar problems from others with Touch Pad. So, if Im going to have to spend the money ($140) to buy a new Touch Pad every couple of years, I thought, why not separate out the switches and install individual controls? Probably my best option at this point as a retired guy on a fixed income. Hope to do it for less than $140 and also avoid future failure. If you can please forward to me the wiring detail for the adapter connection behind console (which color wires connect to each aspect of the Pad), I will pull the bezel and install control switches in its place. Im a severe do-it-yourself-type so let me know if my idea is wacko and Ill live with the problem. BTW: 2010 Pantera Classic, babied and garage-kept since buying new from dealer five-hours away.Thank you for your help.
You usually only need e overlay to replace the existing touch pad. Its not usually the control module, just the overlay. We dont know of an easy way to rewire and add switches to the control module as they are a small plug in with low voltage. The dash functions on 5 volts and not 12 volts as your thinking. See about just the overlay. BCB
Tell me more about the overlay you mention. I am totally unfamiliar with what it is.Thanks.
A Vision Touch assembly is a control unit made by ATen for BCB, and an overlay made by another company that is attached to a custom made aluminum plate (by yet another company). The overlay adheres to the aluminum plate and comes with adhesive. These can come loose when installed on the dash and separate if flexed which allows moisture to eventually permeate the switch domes that are encased. Of course humidity also assists that with aging. Since your not aware of the Vision Assemby we think this is your first bout with an issue. We had some initial problems with Vision Touch Pads, thugh very few since the original units, the problems were as much install as failure. Hope this helps!
While this is my “first bout with an issue”, it has plagued me for most of the calendar year. I have just learned to live with it through the winter and spring, but now that my catch is dying before weigh-in I have promised myself to find a fix. I dont mean to presume on Bass Cats good customer relations, but if “we had some initial problems with Vision Touch Pads, though very few since the original units, the problems were as much install as failure”, is this problem something I hope to find some help with from BCB? My nearest dealers are both three-hour drives one way, so I would be happy to try the install myself if yall are able to help me with the part.Again, thanks for your input.
Contact Richard in Service and see what he has to say. We dont think yours is a problem issue from those initial as that was a long time ago and we would have heard from you in 2007 or so. For the time the units have been out we have not had many problems overall.
Can you give me Richards contact info, please? I will call / email him ASAP.Whoever you are, thanks for responding so quickly!
Ive been through at least 3 touch pads and 2 control boxes since “07. Every time its been after fishing in a big rain or in a heavy rain. I have the horn disconnected (it went off once while fishing and once in the middle of the night) as that really makes you pay attention. Also added a pumpout/recirculate that works on a different switch. I added a second bilge pump with an external switch also. It looked easier to add another pump and switch as a back up than to completely abandon the touch pad. In 8 years this is the only issue Ive had with my boat other than normal wear so cant really complain.
I HAVE WENT THROUGH 2 PADS IN 10 TRIPS OUT. IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND WANT GO AWAY WHY DONT BASS CAT HAVE NEW SEALED PADS MADE AND TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. WHEN YOU GO FISHING AND DONT KNOW IF LIVE WELL WILL FILL OR HORN BLOW BY IT SELF ,OR LIGHTS MIGHT NOT WORK IT COULD BE GROUNDS FOR LAW SUIT IN CASE OF ACCIDENT CAUSED BY FAILURE OF THESE PAD SWITCHES.
