I didnt do well fishing, but I didnt finish last. Fished all 3 days without a AAA ( co-angler). The tournament was a shared weight tournament, so I was at a disadvantage. There were 90 boats. Only 2 Basscats. Mine and one from Idaho. Got a lot of good comments on color and style. In prefish I gave rides to a couple of guys that didnt have boats. They were impressed with the ride. They had ridden in a lot of other boats in the past as co-anglers. Said mine was by far the best ride. Even though I am under powered by 25 hp. Interesting note. On day 2 I towed in one boat and picked up another co-angler in order to get him back to weigh in on time. Before I went back out to tow the boat, Brand x Rep threw two hats in my boat and said ” next year drive one of these”. I said I just towed in one of yours and Im on my way back out to get another one of yours. His reply, “must be the power its wont be my concern”. As it turned out it was the wiring in one boat and the motor on the other one. I cant IMAGINE a BCB rep saying something like that. Another interesting thing. Both of the guys I gave rides to, are my age or older and getting ready to retire. They will be looking at BCB. Seriously…Day 2 I got DQed because I had checked in and didnt weigh my fish before I went back out to give the tow. The wind was starting to get serious and you know how brand x boats are in rough water. Especially without power. My fault, brain lapse. On day 3; a different brand was broke down. He said that he had been given the run around with problems he had with both his dealer and manufacturer. He asK me about my ride and that opened the door. It had been rough in the area he and I had been fishing, so I ask him how much water he had in his bilge. He said that he had run the pump off and on all day. I told him the only water in my bilge was from the ice chest and a couple of quick stops to avoid jet skiers. In closing The Cat performed flawlessly. The heat on the lake day 3 was 115 deg. although the finally report was 107.Martin PS for BCB. While the trend is to the younger fishermen, and I do agree with it, dont forget the old guys that are getting ready to retire. They have watched tournaments on TV or fished as co-anglers and now that they will have the time and hopefully the money to get serious. You could bill it as the geriatric package, softer seats and a rack for an oxgen bottle, as well as a pill box holder.
MountainCat, we enjoyed your story, and that other Cat was the dealer from IDaho. He finished up well in the money, and had a New Cougar FTD.We know we have to continue to address the 50s crowd. We do it every day. Though as our crowd ages, we working hard to grow in those younger generations. Cougar FTDs and Pumas are not manufactured for that younger crowd. Though a Sabre FTD is. The P4 was built specifically for that 45 to 55 market. We know we must think about those in these ages. Though as we all age to our 70s, eventually we will not replace our boats, our children will inherit them. So we must build some brand loyalty among that 30s bracket for those next 20 years. Nice read! BCB
Was the tourney on lake Mead? I think the guy from Idaho was the guy I bought my boat from? How did he do?
Great story! I know it was tough on the DQ, and being at a disadvantage. But you helped another angler(s), gave rides to even more anglers, and in doing so, not only impressed people with a BassCat, but also what being in the “family” is about–sharing knowledge, information, and sportsmanship. You helped solidify the image of the fishing population in general by assisting as needed. Also took a lot of restraint to keep under control when idiots throw hats and talk at the same time96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Great read MC… I hope that everybody reads this thread so that they also understand the responsibility of another boater to assist a disabled craft, regardless of the circumstance. You did so with grace and Im sure that folks will remember that. Keep your head up while fishing those Ts, your conscience is clear because you did the right thing…. and Im suprised that the tournament director didnt recognize that. Now, for BCB… sooo… what crowd were the Cougar FTDs and Pumas targeted for? Are you calling me old? Cmon now!! Though sometimes… when Im fishing… and weaving my way through the timber… I do wish that I had a Sabre instead of the C-FTD, but Ill tell you what… on the long runs… in the wind… Im real glad Ive got the bigger boat. Back to the assumtion… @ 44, I will hope that you still consider and one more thing MC… I dont need the O2 bottle yet… but do use the pill box holder now and then… then again….. I could just be an old guy already… thats what my old lady calls me….
tcTX, our average age of consumer is about 46 now. BCB
