Took m 02 pantera 3 to the shop to try some different props and ended up that the prop was not the problem and the mechanic checked the computer on the motor and it was missing on 2 cylinders. Of the 300 hours on the motor like 270 of them were at idle and had alot of soot around the hub. Mechanic told me that more than likely it was fouled plugs and they are going to change them out this week. Was just curious if anyone has had this problem so maybe i would not worry so much until I hear if thats the problem

Fouled plugs are common and if that is the problem then thats a good thing.

No need to worry just yet… The soot inside the prop suggests that the previous owner probably did not use DFI oil exclusively (assuming you have an Optimax) and did not use Quickleen very often. Lots of idling will cause carbon buildup if you dont use the correct oil. Fuel additive with every other fillup is also a good idea.

its a optimax but the soot has come from the couple hours i have ran the boat hoping its just the plugs mentioned that it could be the fuel rails but i am not sure of how much $ that is to get changed

I to have an 02 P3 and and the same problem before I stated running the quikleen havent had any problems since

Got the call from the boat shop today and was all good news, said after changing the plugs that the motor was was running really strong and he got up to 73 on gps on a short run and hole shot was good am excited to get to run the boat with full power

Been down this road too…….excessive idling causes the plug fouling…..along without running it hard regularly…and using a decarbon treatment as well as a yearly manual decarb is a must…idle on !!!

going to pick up some quickleen when i pick the boat up wont have to worry bout the boat idling too much anymore i do most of my fishing on the tombigbee river so its going to get run ha ha

Make sure that the motor is getting up to proper temp. These motors are notorious for fouling plugs when a thermostat stays open from debris.
