XRI upgrade to Pro XS

Just wondering if anybody has made the switch from a Mercury XRI to a Pro XS and if they ran into any problems? Considering ordering a Pro XS 200 to replace my 200 EFI from Jacos. 12,500.00 with a 5 year warranty dont sound too bad.

I wouldnt do it unless the XRI is toast and then I would consider it….if….you plan to keep the boat for another 5-7 years. There are a couple of threads on here about repowering. Im one of them96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

Im hoping to keep it a whole lot longer than that jig. Who knows what the future holds, but I love my boat and have no interest in upgrading to a new boat. Ive already upgraded everything on the boat except the motor.

Drug my sons 2001 SABRE from Louisiana to Georgia back in June for a re-power. Went from a 150XR6 to 175PROXS. It was worth the haul as no one local could come close on the price. Bought this one at SPORTS CENTER in Georgia. Price between them & JACOS was real close. Was able to get a few bucks off the old motor without the hassle of parting it out. We set up a date & time and was in & out in about three hours. I think JACOS does the same and Ive heard nothing but good things about them. The PROXS is sweet, just a touch of the key & it purrs right away. You wont regret it. If I remember right theres an adapter kit for the wiring and your harness will plug right in with no problem.

I repowered a 1996 Eyra in 2012. Im the second owner of the boat and bought it in 2008-knew the original owner from the club we fished. I remember when he bought it, had a Suzuki on it. He eventually repowered with a used Mariner Magnum EFI just like the XRI. I ran the EFI and had several issues start popping up then lost lower unit. Tired of patching up an engine that we didnt know previous history, knowing I would pass it on to my son, I repowered….. We added a MercMonitor later. If you dont already have one thats a pretty sweet upgrade. Tells you everything you need to know. Very accurate.

Only if you totally are committed to keeping the boat and trailer for 7 years or more. If the term you are considering keeping the rig is around 5 years we would rebuild existing if possible, or repower with another similar used engine or power head.

I re powered from a blown 200efi to a 200 pro xs at Jaycos. Had a great experience. Drove 400 miles for the deal. Dropped it off at 8:00 am and was on way home before lunch. While it was there I upgraded to hydraulic steering and a merc monitor. If the boat is in good shape and your gonna keep it go for it.
