I was told the OEMs where checkin out the Yammie 4 banger today and yesterday, not looking for specs just thoughts? I was told that the “Guessers” stating it was another Verado were way off, I figured Better breathing and weight along with the mating to a High Performance Gear Case, let us know, I gotta have Guns for my E-TEC Rifle!!!!
It runs nice…
BCB when will they have them available for purchase???

I guess well see marketing push soon enough. Is it true you were handicapped having a 200 “GC4” on a Puma?
The Puma FTD has a 225 SHO on it. THe other two bass versions were are 20 iClass and a Z520, each with a 250 SHO. The engines ran well! The Puma FTD with a 225 apparently is the quicker of the boats there running around an average speed of 75.6 and 20.9 GPH, with a 4.2 ltr block assembly. 1:75 gear ratio and has a 25 M propeller. The Hole shot on through are as expected and good at 505 pounds of weight dry we understand. The early indications are it will stack up against a 250 Pro XS and E Tec well. Sounds to me from what ive heard that the HO AND Pro XS are still faster on the top end? 505lbs is right there with the Leaders. 4.2liters!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it a 5valve head? Titanium and magnesium is it used for the weight reduction? Hows the Gear case? HO Man
Brannon, you may be right with potential WOT speed performance going to 2 stroke motors but I would like to see that setup with a 25P Fury prop too. All things being equal if the motor delivers 2 stroke competitive performance with the 4 stroke attributes then it maybe a legitimate motor alternative moving forward. What are the star ratings for this motor? It will be interesting to see if Iconnelli will be sporting one in 2010. Also, to BassCats credit I think I read that the Puma with a 225 setup was faster then both Skeeter and Ranger with 250s….. Is that correct? Now for some added perspective on hole shot. What was the experience like using digital controls? Is this motor purr quiet like other four stroke motors? SMSBASS, Dude we agree again, part of the problem with ANY of these Foriegn type of 4 strokes is gonna be Initial cost, more costs more, not less, also, anyone that has owned a 4 stroke Yammie or Honda knows what the Service intervals are, knows what Yamaha “recommends”” for service and where to service, meaning Im sure this thing is gonna run on Expensive 4stroke Pure Synthetic, Oil filters and Fuel Filters, as Flyswatter found out Yamahas are super expensive to run, much like a Mercedes, Ferrari, etc. Im truly a Yamaha Guy, Ive stated that before, yet I feel that this thing is gonna be a specialty motor, for Yamaha Loyalists, and some others will buy it also, the purists will love the Ease of Maintenance of the Evinrude Etec and even the Mercury Optimax, until one of them fade away into the sunset. Now Ive heard BRP Rumors of reviving the Super Recognizable name of Johnson Outboards with ROTAX 4 stroke power, now that could be a rumor but it may be a smart idea, or??????? H.O.Man, not SHO man…
I think they are going to be on all Skeeters. Every 20i, ZX225 etc…. I dont think that constitutes a “specialty” motor.
Bama96 has it right. Specialty motor I dont think so. These motors will be on large platform of bass boats including BassCats. Per EPA emission standards and Yamaha moving away from their two stroke motors this may be the next evolution for bass boat motors. Only time will tell if Yamaha gets it right.
Guys check out the Hot sheet. http://www.simyamaha.com/category_s/1880.htm
kind of ugly? I may be wrong but Bama doesnt it some what resemble your F225 cowls, kind of? I hope its more attractive than the pic shows….We will see if Flyswatter gets one what the 1st thoughts are with it vs. the Series 2
No this one seems more domed on top. The F225 is flat. I think it looks good. Look at the link above I posted. It shows it at a different angle.
HOMan and others, That may be your opinion, though it was not the opinion of those who viewed it at the OEM Conference, and we heard similar stories from the Dealer Conference. We have no real opinion we care to share ourselves, though it resembles the previous cowlings some and those have been well accepted. The video on line shows two distinct differences, though the boats are not rigged identical, and one has a Power Pole. The Power pole bracket tends to grab water and slow the hole shot. Thus we think the video of the 250 SHO is a bit skewed. Not that it does not perform well, though when a reference is made to comparisons, they should be identical set ups in all fashions possible. Our view on this is that there are now two (2) distinct markets with engine companies that will lead each of those segments for bass, whereas saltwater preferences will vary some. One market will be a four stroke oriented market for a different consumer, and the other will be a defined two stroke market for those enthusiasts that have those preferences. That is the game changer we see. BCB Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on November 17th, 2009, 8:01 pm, edited 3 times in total.
