Topic: Yet another prop question

I have a new Puma with a 250 Pro XS. It came with a Trophy 26P. This is my seventh bass boat and my third Bass Cat. In the past Ive always taken the prop that comes on the boat and not experimented with it. My prop hasnt got a mark on it. Having said this, would I be out of line asking my dealer if I could try other props on the boat? Should I expect him to trade out for another prop of equal value, or let me pay the difference? I asked my dealer today if I could try a Fury prop, and he said no, I would have to buy it without first trying it. I did not ask if I could trade mine and pay the difference, if there was a difference. I know hes in business to make money and doesnt want to sell used merchandise. I just dont want to be unreasonable. I get the impression from some of the posts Ive read that some dealers have let buyers experiment.

There are a lot of dealers who will let guys try a prop before they buy one as long as they commit to buying a prop. Having said that some people are borderline crazy about having to have something out of a sealed container and some dealers cant convince a some people that it is new even though it has been ran a couple of times. Others cannot have the overhead of “try out” props to allow customers to use. You might contact [email protected] and they can probably tell you an avenue to try on this one. I personally never had a problem with buying a prop that has been ran as long as it wasnt hurt. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

We dont want to seem like we are taking up for a dealer here though in todays marine world this is a difficult task. We ourselves go through dozens of propellers testing and we will be glad to assist if we can. Though in our testing we wind up owning dozens of propellers that we dump at a considerable loss as they are no longer new. So we definitely see both sides. Contact Service at BCB and give them what your thinking and get their opinion. Obviously everyone wants to try the new Fury and they are backordered. The demand is outpacing the ability to supply the new alloy. Not sure if this helps though it is an answer. BCB

BCB, dont worry about “taking up for the dealer” in this issue. I think his refusal to let me try the prop is legitimate. I just didnt know if his position was customary among dealerships. As I said above, I dont want to be unreasonable. And your answer definitely helps. I appreciate it. You stated in an earlier post about props that you would choose a Fury for a spare.
