    I know from experience that boat racers actually ruff up the pad. To be honest with you I actually felt the same way! If you waxed it enough your actually be rididng on a big bubble!

    I plastic wrap my top cap and my cowel all the time before adding their covers. I used industrial grade shrink wrap – its worth the 10min it takes to get it on correct, to save the finish of a $40,000 boat and motor.

This is what I do for a living and can provide you with product standards on all stainless steel (18-8 and 316). I would go with a waxed A4 Stainless to prevent galling. Do you need a washer or nuts?
