Thanks JSLAW and BCB!! This is very helpful information. My decision is getting clearer on which boat will work best for me. I live in the Washington State and will be running the Snake and Columbia River. Will the Puma FTD hold up to the big water the Columbia river can produce? I have had boats before that had stress cracks all over the boat. What is your opinion on the durability of this boat in the Pacific Northwest.Garry

High Cotton,I am sure the Mississippi is quite treacherous the Columbia River is known for freaky wind storms causing up to eight foot waves. I have been caught in tournaments in 5 to 6 waves that is when I have had problems with stress cracks trying to get back to the Marina. I have heard nothing but good about the Puma FTD. I drove one a couple of years ago and liked the performance of the boat. I didnt get to fish out of it but the fishing platform seemed solid and didnt list to one side when both guys were on that side. Thanks for all of the information.Garry

Thanks for all the replies. I think high cotton gave me some good information with the barges, current, and wind mixed would be close to what you would deal with on the Columbia River. I think that the Puma FTD will hold up well. It is a shame that the federal government controls so much and can tell a boat manufacturer how to build a boat. You guys have been a wealth of information. I appreciate your help!!Garry

BCB,I had a Legend Bass 211 with a 250 proxs and I used a 25 Fury at that elevation and would hit 5600 to 5800 rpms. I figured the Puma FTD. would out perform the Legend and might be able to handle a 26 Fury at the elevation of 2,155. The water is cold and the engines perform a lot better.Garry

We would average about 100 contestants per tournament so you know that there are a lot of bass fisherman and boats. The biggest deal will be proving that the boats will hold up to the conditions of the river. Once the fisherman realize that Bass Cat boats will give them a comfortable ride in rough water and still out run the other boats you will begin to see the number of boats begin to increase. You also have a young population of bass fisherman coming up that will need boats. This generation would be a great generation to target.Garry

I bet KVDs fishing rods or reels arent off the same manufacturing line that you and I would get if we purchased. They probably have a KVD manufacturing line set up just for him and everything is tuned, weighed, and adjusted prior to him ever receiving the product. They are going to take care of their money horse. I am sure his boat is produced better than any other nitro boat also. They probably hand lay the pros boats and make sure they are the strongest and lightest that they produce so they are able to show the best speeds and performance that sells the boats. They probably do a lot of sanding and tweaking to the hulls. I would think that it would be like blueprinting the hull.

These brackets look like they will hold up a lot better than some of the other brands.

I can tell you what Mercury Marine told me when I was throwing blades on Trophys and Tempest props. They say if you look at the top edge of the prop you will see small lines in the flat surface of the blade and the some are deeper than others. The blades will turn and on blade will be out of the water releasing the stress and when it enters the water again it creates stress causing these deeper slots to begin to develop cracks. I took a small sanding disc in my drill and sanded these lines down to almost a flat surface taking very little material off. From that point on I never threw another blade. Check out your prop and see if it has these small lines.Garry Hagins
