Thank you so much for your insight into the fish finders and batteries. Boat has the 175 pro xs 4s. The installed onboard charger is the pro marine sport 20plus 3 bank charger.

As far as my fishing styles, I know I will use the Ipilot and link to follow contour lines, for bass fishing, all the installed birds have nav.  I will also use spot lock as the wife and I will crappie fish quite a bit.

I doubt that I will ever go full speed with the trolling motor, I tend to fish slower than most.

I live in Oklahoma city and just bought a 2019 Sabre. Depending on where you live. If you are in Oklahoma or north Texas, I suggest http://www.edwardscanvas.com in Paul’s valley,  OK. You can schedule an appointment and it’s about a day to two day turnaround on a custom fit cover. Boat has to be there for fitment. When I have the funds, this is where I will go. I have a good friend that has a direct drive Mastercraft that they made a cover for, fits like a glove, is 10 years old and looks brand new.  Just my 2 cents….

You should have a group 31 battery for cranking and electronics, IMO. A 24 is just not going to cut it.  Get the maximum CCA and reserve that you can find. My ’17 Sabre FTD has wet cell group 31 for cranking, and two group 27s for the Fortrex 80 trolling motor. The onboard charger should handle those with no issues. Your dealer should have known better than to put a 24 for cranking, and they also should have wired up the charger while at it. They do not make an insert for the deck, and honestly, I don’t see why anybody would need it, plus it makes getting up on the front deck easier with the cooler used as a step…of course, I’m older than you, perhaps…67.

You have a great boat, btw…the Sabre is a hotrod once it’s set up correctly.  It’s the perfect size for my needs, will use minimal fuel, and handles like it’s on rails once you get it all right.

    I didn’t get a 31, I got a 27, it is 840 CCA 184 reserve @25 amps.

And speaking of setup, I’m curious how deep you run your motor.  Right now my prop shaft is 4.5 inches below pad. I have the 175 Pro XS 4S, so it has the additional water pickups in the nose of the LU.

I’m 190 lbs, by myself what kind of speed can I expect. And what kind of rpm’s should I expect at WOT.

Jeff, I am not aware of any AGM (as required by Mercury) battery that has those specs. Is that an AGM and if so, what brand is it?

    </div>

It’s not an AGM battery, just normal lead acid. It’s the cranking 810 XPS from bass pro. It’s normally 194.99 and I got it for 116.

Catdude, thanks for the heads up. I just called the dealer who sold me the boat. They are not a bass cat dealer, they are ranger and nitro dealer and mercury marine dealer.  Talked to the sales manager, super guy btw, voiced my concern,  and he was aware of the AGM requirement. I’m going to send him pics of the original 24 series battery that was in the boat. It sounds like he will make it right if they installed the battery. But what if my boat came from basscat with the incorrect battery……

I have never used the amsoil hp marine oil I assume you are referring to.

I have used amsoil products for over 20 years of my adult life on everything from my diesel pickup to my weed eater. In an older boat we had(85 hp evinrude) that we had to premix, that had the two removable 6 gallon tanks. We used sabre oil, which is not even recommended for today’s outboards. We ran it 80 to 1. It was a 1974 Newman ski boat, my folks sold it in 2004. Impeller and plugs were all that were ever changed. She would fire right up after sitting all winter. But my dad would unhook from the tank and run it dry and when it started sputtering he would choke it till it died. That boat and motor spent many hours(years) on the lake. Our family vacations always revolved around a lake. Texoma and lake Hamilton(AR) being the main 2 lakes. Texoma is a very brackish lake.

My new 4 stroke proxs will get amsoil in the engine and the gear box. Just my $.02

Great post! I’m considering going to the FS and having my fury 24 3 blade as a backup. Nick from mercury racing suggested a 25, would a 25.5 or perhaps a 26 better be suited for the new 2019 175 XS 4S. I do not like carrting my tackle in the rear compartments. I want hole shot and lift and the driveability sounds good too. I’ve seen 69 and it walked and I slowed down 🙂

    Bass Cat Boats:

That is too much wheel for the new 175 four stroke engine. It will never carry a load on that rig as efficiently as other propellers will.

Please explain too much wheel? Pitch,  or the fact that it is a four blade? I really want to store up front, but currently the nose feels like it’s plowing with my gear up front.

    CB Sabre.

I’m not a go fast guy. I want the lift and driveability I read about with the 4 blades.

With that being said I do want my setup correct. I talked to Kieth, from ronnie Gilbert’s prop shop. With the 24 fury, ptp at 3.625 to get to 68-69 he says I’m trimmed to high, due to my roster tail height being about 1.5 to 2 feet higher than the engine cowl. He said if I raised the plate, had a 24 fury with some cup work on the tips, I would get more lift and it would be easier to manage. I still want a backup prop, so the bravo is still on the table for me. He did say if I get a bravo, I’ll have to run it higher than the fury.

    CB Sabre,

I bought the bravo from basscathash, hell for 350  to my door,I couldn’t really go wrong. I needed a backup prop anyway. I do not think I will be sending my props to ronnie. I’m gonna take my fury to boat city prop shop in okc where I live. Bryan is very good at what he does and has been at it for 25 years. And he is a crazy go fast guy. He just got back from tickfall(sp). He’s gonna clean up my fury, and cup the tips just a bit for bow lift. He agreed with Keith from ronnie’s prop shop, that I need to raise the jp, that I’m carrying the bow with trim. Time will tell. I’m getting more comfortable behind the wheel.

On a side note, I hate hearing people say bass boats handle great and will turn on a dime….. they do not. Competition direct drive ski boats will. I sold mine last year, I could make her swap ends going 40-45 mph…..hahaha

So I bought the bravo 1 xs he had for sale. My grading of the prop would be a 9.9 out of 10, not 9 of 10. Very fast shipping too.
