    You cant go wrong if you go by the owners manual. Page 53 explains the proper breakin Procedures. BREAK-IN PRODEDURES 1. For the first hour of operation, allow the engine to warm up for 30-60 seconds. a. Run the engine at varied throttle settings, the majority of the time between 3000 and 4500 RPMs or Three-Quarter throttle. b. Change engine speed approximatly every two minutes, and avoid continuous operation at idle speed for more than ten minutes. Short bursts of Full throttle for a period up to ten seconds are acceptable. c. Avoid trimming the outboard out (up) beyond a verticle trim postition during operation. 2. For the Next three hours of operation, change engine speed every ten minutes.

    I have run both and with out any reservations, both are great motors. But to say the SHO is faster without camparing apples to apples may be a mistake. I have compared apples to applea and the pro XS is a faster motor. ………….
