    Bass Cat Boats:

We suggest a 23 Fury and we feel almost everyone is running too tall a pitch on the new four stroke engines.

Interesting. So would that be a 23 fury and maybe a 24 tempest? Or just stick with the fury series?

I’m running the 23 Fury right now. I also have a 23 Tempest that I’ve not tried. I’d considered moving to a 4-blade since I don’t mind as much whether I’m going 73 vs 78 or whatever.

    Bass Cat Boats:

If performance is not a concern on top end, then the Four Blade Fury might fit you.

What pitch would you suggest on the 4-blade fury? I may give one a whirl just to see where it gets me.

    Triton03Vance:

I switched from the 3 blade 24 fury that came on my lynx to a 4 blade 24 fury and the boat performs  better all across the board..i lost maybe 2 to 3mph on top end by going to the 4 blade, but the overall gains far outweigh the top end decrease. 300 merc pro xs 4s with dual power poles, manual jackplate set flush on the top of the plate. Right around 74mph with 2 people on board, 3/4 fuel and full wells, also 6200 rpm’s or just a shade under at wide open. Best i have seen with the 4 blade is 76mph, half fuel and wells empty and was flying solo on that run. My boat lifts up on the pad way faster with the 4 over the 3 and it carries the bow better throughout the rpm range.

Very good info. With me only running the 250 4/s, I’m guessing only option would be the the 4 blade 24? I dont see that they make a lower pitch.

So if I was looking for a bravo I’d be better off to go with something like a 25 or a 24?

Update, after about 8 hours of screwing with this thing, I nearly have it. The bracket and spring are pretty simple other than getting to them and the lack of any drawings or information on how they go together. Not only was the spring and release latch loose, there were cracked rollers in master cylinder, broken plastic sleeves, etc. Just a very poorly designed system overall.  It’s like they throw random parts in there, several of which are just floating inside and not connected. So be aware if you attempt to disassemble. I’m glad I did as I wouldn’t have found the other issues. I’ll be giving UFP a call to voice my opinions on this system and ask that they send me a warranty replacement.

I’ll let you guys know how the warranty process goes. I don’t mind as much as long as they stand behind their products. As you mentioned, I’m not sure what the other options (if any) are.

I suppose what really surprised me was that I was literally not able to locate anyone within their tech department that knew enough about it to fix it. I emailed them as well and no reply. The distributed mechanic was supposed to take a look and let me know. He asked me to text him some photographs and never responded after that.

I’ve superglued the washer and nut together, then the washer sits on top of wrench with nut attached. This helps you get the nut lined up on the bolt as well because washer is a guide. It’ll probably break loose once you tighten.

I’ve used vise grips for that sort of thing. Make sure your kids aren’t around for the expletives sure to follow.

Update – spoke to Dexter yesterday. They are sending me complete actuator assembly under warranty.  My understanding is that they’ve made some recent design changes to the XR-84.  The guy looked at photos I sent regarding the master cylinder and rollers and I think it’s an issue they’ve seen before.

That being said, if you have to call Dexter customer service regarding the actuators, call their San Marcos, CA location and not the Winchester, TN location.  The guy in Winchester was not at all helpful (other than giving me a phone number), tried to blame it on me, and in the end according to the folks in San Marcos, he has no idea what he’s talking about anyway.

I picked up a 24 Fury 4, gonna hopefully test drive soon.  Just curious, should I start with any of the PVS holes plugged or what are most guys seeing with this?

If you search for Bass Cat Owners it’ll pop up.

I wanted the Fury 4 23 but was unable to locate one.  I believe the issue is prop related though, makes sense.  I think I’ll just switch back to the 23P 3 blade until I can locate a 23P 4 blade or have my reworked.

I’ll do that. I’ll let you guys know how it pans out. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ronnie.
