Sounds like you have taken the time as well and we both thank you for our grand kids and those to come we hope. Our system works with only a dollar store sheet cake pan and a ruler to measure each fish no matter how small or large. most of our kids are to small to carry 10 pounds and we measure each fish by the water and release each fish within minutes of them catching them. The first year we paid for the tournament our self The second year we collected donations from the guests and left it with the park but the rangers quit the park and took our money so we had to pay for the next one again but this time we kept the money safe with us . Keep up the good work and help spread the concept . We would like to get this thing going nationally. It only takes two people with the love of the out doors and our future. Thanks Jack and Shirley Proctor phatestkat wrote: We have a 4H kids derby every year here in Raeford, NC. We take it a step further using our club scales to weigh in all fish. The program consists of a bucket (2 gal.) provided to all contestants, to haul the catch up to the “stage” where they weigh in their catch through-out the event. It is very funny watching a 40 pound kid run with a 15 lb. bucket full of water and fish to the scale. All fish are returned to the water by the contestants and a running total weight is used to determine the winners in each age group. We finish up with hot dogs, chips and coca cola products as well as snack cakes. The awards ceremony includes rod-reel combos, tackle packs and trophies or medals for the contestants. PLease promote youth fishing.
