I know how you feel I just purchased mine last Oct. albeit the wait was shorter (already built). So stock up on oil & get the garage ready! Oh yeah congrats on your purchase, John p.s. I cant wait till the lakes arent so solid-one long winter.
1st-BIG,then make it bigger than you think youll need. Hot/cold water faucets, floor drains, high ceiling, dehumidifier, floor coating, double door. Oh and did I mention to make your garage BIG. Hope that helps. John
Which I assume means take it to the nearest mercury dealer in the kansas city area, any suggestions on a good one? I never received anything from Mercury regarding my 10/30/07 purchase, do they just look up serial number for warranty work? John
Thanks, I am going to try the computer reboot this afternoon. All fuel lines looked o.k. as far as I could see. John
It appears to be a punctured air hose on the top side of the motor that had gotten into the air compressor. Part on order, 3-5 days & they said they will route or tie it so it does not happen again. John
kdaves, If I could go back and change my purchase, I would have bought the EFI. I have already missed some good fishing days because of part failure on my new opti. The EFI has less scheduled service too. basscat4life you only need to use mercury premium oil, premium plus is for proxs motors. Another plus is the EFIs sound much better at idle to mid range. I know the others are correct on resale, especially if you live in or close to a “green state” say California. Im pretty sure I saw a 4 year warranty on the EFI from Merc check their website. John
I also have the Sabre. as stated above, I dont see how the FTD could be “more” stable than the Sabre. I prefer the look of the deck on the Sabre as opposed to the FTD & I like the rails and its a little lighter. I have not seen the price difference between the 08 sabre models, but get what you really like so you arent always wondering what if I… Good Luck,John
Thanks for your responses. Judd, last fall before we had to have the blended fuel, I feel like my proxs performed a little better than this year and I have definately gotten better driving. I have read the above usage from the factory re85. I was hoping to get some more responses from others who may have had the same experience. How often do you run quickleen? By the way I have noticed a mileage loss 1-2 mpg in our cars. John
Again thanks for all the info. I was talking of 90/10, and I did see were merc does not want e85 in the tank. What I have noticed from last fall was I actually thought I would need to go to a 26 tempest after the motor loosened up a little, now my 25 might be a tad too big. The only difference is fuel. John
Remember that the Sabre is only rated for a 115hp 4 stroke. EFI or Opti, 2-stroke is the way to go. John
I have the same problem. Purchased my 07 in Nov. so everything is new, I tightened up the spring return so it does not do it as often, just when windy and Im docking. I figured thats the main reason for those who dislike the hotfoot-it can be a pain in the —. can you detect my sarcasm. john
not a FTD, but 07 Sabre w/175proxs 67.2 gps or 74 on speedo wish the speedo was the accurate one! john
assuming your motor is past the break in period, you would not dive wide-open w/no trim at all. Increase trim so motor is about level after coming on plane. I go to about 4,000 or 4,500 rpm trim up more until the rooster tail is just lower than the motor cowling-(as long as the water pressure is good and not decreasing) then increase speed until wide open using your left hand for “chine walk” corrections (which while your learning will happen), if it does trim down first before backing off of the throttle and start the process over. Theres a pretty good learning aid on u-tube from smallmouthguy on driving tips w/video. Always watch water pressure guage, I would have to believe there is no way to trim all the way up and maintain 15psi. good luck. John
wayne, I have recently experienced the same thing- 07 sabre empty wells, 1/2 tank, & myself planes quickly-very quick even with all holes plugged 175proxs. I did a tournament recently had a feeling before hand to put the 1/2″ hole plugs for ventilation, full wells 3/4 tank & brother in law= very slow planing. It probably wouldnt have planed with holes plugged. So to answer your question 1. lmore ventilation, 2. 23″ prop, 3. do you need a full tank of gas? 4. move some weight forward, 5. 175hp. I think your running too deep, got mine at 3″ below and runs the best of all the different heights Ive tried. John
hooter, the sabre has 2 different hp ratings on the coastguard plate 175 2-stroke max and 115 4-stroke max. so hopefully we will not see how that combo works. john
