Money no object? Thats easy- sears pm-1. Care about money? Cost/benefit ratio? Theres the debate. Want $1300 in 4 batteries? Sears pm-1C.O.D. Jr. III
Sears PM-1 for cranking and electronics. Walmart MAXX 29 series for TM. I can get about 2 1/2 years consistently out of the Wal-mart brand here in hot ArizonA. The only time the Walmarts went less then 2 1/2 years was the year I never checked water level. This is the best combo of price/value that Ive seen.
Ive had great service from my group 29 Interstates, i run three, all alike deep cycle/ starting. Replace every two years and use the old ones on other equipment.
Im partial to DEKA 31sBass Pros are made by DEKA as well.
Has anyone made the plunge and purchased the Lithium systems. If so are any manufacturers better than others??? Sounds like the benefits are: 1. Huge weight savings. Therefore possible fuel savings over time. 2. Increase life expectancy, maybe over 10 years….others may know more accurate info on this. 3. Longer discharge life while on the water. 4. Shorter charging time, possibly 2 hours or less.I am kicking this idea around, just wondering if certain manufacturers are better in quality and warranty issues??? Making that initial investment is the tough part!!!!BillLast edited by Fish Doc on October 24th, 2013, 12:11 am, edited 1 time in total.
Fish Doc: If you head over to the Bass Cat forum on BBC, there is a very informative and detailed thread regarding the Lithium batteries. You will find the thread easily as there was a post to-day on it.
If you are not concerned about the money Lithium is a great way to go in my opinion. I am very happy with mine!
Allen, would you mind telling me what brand you purchased?? Thanks guys
I have spoken with a pretty informed source regarding lithium and thus far i dont think the experience at the upper end of our sport has been impressed. There is no usage curve that makes lithium make sense. Pm-1 is debatable at least. The cost per year curve doesnt even make sense over the average ownership period of a boat assuming the battery would even last that long. Plus you gotta figure the lifespan of 90% of the battery is the warranty period and until that sucker is either 1/5 the cost or a 10 year warranty its still cardiologist expensiveC.O.D. Jr. III
Im sure this has probably been debated a hundred times, but here goes…Just got another boat and Im gonna have to replace all the batteries (cranking and trolling). What batteries do you guys prefer. The current boat I fish in has Bass Pro batteries and seem to be fine, but the replacement boat Im trying to rig up, I want the best out there for the money. What are you guys using, and whats yalls opinions on batteries?
I have a p2 . I purchased a 31 series blue top. Back in March for a cranking. It has performed flawless. I have a good friend who runs them. Trollers also. He loves them. I kno their not favored but I l8ke mine and charges well the the nocco. Guess it preference. I run the 29 interstate wet cell for my troller as I have for yrs.with good success2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I said they were 24 series, which is what the interstate was, but the optima is a 31 series and its small enough to fit in the factory tray.

My buddy has been using 31 series Optimas in his boat for years. Hes running a 250 Yamaha. Im would imagine if he has enough power for his big engine, then you should have plenty of power for cranking yours.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
That 24 xd is not what its beefed up to be. Last 3 new boats I bought come with one an I have replaced all with in couple weeks. It will not do what they say it will , if it was for cranking only an nothing else on it , it might be ok. ….. On the other hand I am a big fan of the blue top 31. Never had a issue with one, I think you will be satisfied.
