Or or at least I read that about older models anyway.

We have a serious high percentage of Mercury engine sales and Mercury full line only dealerships. This has restricted engine growth by either Evinrude or Yamaha. Our Yar-Craft base actually has a solid Yamaha following in areas and at times.
No one was restricted from speaking about performance on the G2 or the Pro XS 225 that was run, both on Caracal models. The Pro XS we ran is a Verado Gearcase and thus some was left there.
The G2 ran almost exactly like the Yamaha SHO did on the Caracal. The engine hit bottom end torque curve fast, to be fair it also has a hole set plate installed on the lower engine mount, which we have not evaluated the benefit of without. It does help on other engines and thus we have to assume it does here.
Mid range throttle response was very throaty and quick pulsing. Top end was mid 70’s with some ease and lower with some drivers, or heavy loads.
The cosmetics of the engine really were well accepted by those here in person. We were apprehensive first when images popped out, then after reserving comment and comparing this to a remake of appearance we saw a competitor make in the 1990’s, it became a common look desirable to their base. We feel this engine also will be accepted, other than the size of its appearance on some boats. It has the oil included and it is large, plus offset is supposed to be more like the Verado, making it appear even larger.
Top end runs were able to hit mid 75 plus speeds similar to the other engines we have run on the Caracal and this might just put BRP back in the game. Though we would have to have BRP Evinrude dealers to make the market for this product. Something we don’t have now with only a handful of BRP franchises. Then those dealers that are BRP will have to open their views up also.
Rick
Rick, great read and appreciate your thoughts. What size prop on the G2 Caracal testing? Also, what were the RPMS at WOT? Also, was there any NMEA2000 GPH or MPG data? Good to see BRP build one from scratch. That color scheme with Engine panels looks great!
Caracal is now in 1725 lb range. Wow! that some weight reduction. I need to get on the same game plan.
Price point comes with standard 5/5/5 warranty with option to buy 2 more years. As said it’s good to have more players bringing more options for consumers to consider. Competition is good.

The Caracal is a grand slam ! 19’8″ of pure, solid feeling, fun to drive fishing machine! Us “top heavy” ,,,, older guys, will really appreciate the large decks, comfortable seating, and appreciabe WOW factor of the drive, lift, and handling of the hull.
DB, great read and appreciate your comments. How was the leg room driving the boat? Any issues with your knee hitting against the lower edge of the console? I bet the G2’s foot pedal orientation would be very different then marine standard hotfoot. Did you fish off the front deck? Did you maneuver the boat with trolling motor? Is the console noticeably bigger then Cougars, Erya, Pumas?
When I actually get mine I’ll get Ward and go pro out and do some runs, climb all over th boat, and fish, but hell no, it was too cold yesterday ! Did you guys know there are 28 different size stainless screws used in a BCB ?

If y’all knew what I tried to absorb(learn) from all that was said, by all that attended, and those who know how those that build, build our boats,,,,,,, well then, you’d already be waiting for your 2015 boat as well !
Can y’all tell I’m excited ?
I was fortunate enuf to get an opportunity to run this rig this week. The boat without question is a player, but it probably not necessary for me to point that out to most on this sight. I’m a big guy and love the space in the cockpit. the Caracla is deeper, you sit behind the console in this boat with loads of leg room. It feels like the seat may lean backward just a bit over my Eyra, but it was a little tuff to tell with all the clothes on. My first real impression of the boat when I sat down behind the wheel was WOW, Look at the front deck on this thing!. It was like hauling a pool table around in front of you. For those of you looking to hold hands with your fishing buddy while flippin cover, this is your boat. The performance of this boat is pure BassCat. Yea I’m that guy, you put me in your boat, brag to me about how fast it is, I’m gonna throw the nose in the air & run the crap outta it. I did just that! The Caracal is quick as you would expect, but was it was very easy to handle and sling it around ther corner at high speeds. This boat will make some of the diehard 250 guys take a look at trading to a 225 & I promise it will hurt some feelings of some of the 250’s come tournament day.
Now about the big red Robo-Cop on the back of the boat. I’m a Mercury Guy, you cut me I bleed black. I have owned several and even owned a Johnson Fast Strike and an E-TEC and I do not plan on ever going that way again. BUT! I will give BMP some props here. I take the unpopular opinion the I like the way the engine looks and believe we will see the other manufacturers follow with this apperance in the future. Really when you look at the G2 in person it does not look that much different than a Verado in size and shape. I really like the fact that your can buy panels to match the boat, and man that red one looked pretty sweet on the Caracal.
After being an E-Tec owner on a brand X boat prior, I hit the ramp yesterday thinking No Hole Shot, Slow on the top, Gags in the corners under load, “Yea but ain’t it quiet”. if I had a nickle for everytime I’ve heard that. Again BUT! I can tell you I ate my words. The G2 had a great hole shot, and I ran the Caracal up to 74.8mph. Now it was cold, I’m a bit of a Nancy Boy so i didn’t run Mercury, so I can’t compare. My only complaint about the G2 was, it has a hotfoot like an accelrator on a car, and takes some getting used to and not sure how it would work in rough water. Cool motor, glad I got to run one, I ain’t changing outboard brands, but greatly improvement over the E-Tec.
My Results:
1. Great meeting learned a lot i didn’t know about building a boat and can talk much more knowledgable about the product.
2. Damn it got cold quick.
3. The Caracal is another BCB homerun.
4. November is cold in the Ozarks.
5. Run Black on Back.
6. Love me some summer.
7. Proud to be a part of the BassCat Family.
8. Brrr Dammit!
9. Eat your Corndog with a knife and fork (right Matt?)
I really appreciate the opportunites provided to me by BassCat, I have been with the others and they are the truly the best in the business. Thanks to Rick, Jason, Ivan, and the crew for a great meeting. See you next year!

StevieD,
Great comments and appreciate the console comments. The console looks huge (wide). Is it?
When I get opportunity to test out a G2 the auto trim and mechanical power assist steering is what I’m anxious to experience.
Auto trim will not get the boats best performance. The console gets plenty of air around it, cold air ! The power steering isn’t out yet, and this set up doesn’t need it. The foot throttle sux, not enough tension. The Caracal is more like an Infield grand slam ! The other guys can’t touch it.
