Im still trying to post a Bio. Cant figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I noticed on your Bio that you were the the 1ST pres. of the Va. BASS Federation. Would you happen to know Roger Fitchet,Paul whitehusrt. Did you ever get a chance to fish Buggs Or Gaston?
Glad you liked it. I had this one designed and installed by a co. here in JACKSON,MS. Image One Studios is the name- http://www.imageonestudios.com-601-3540997. The total cost was approx, $3000. Easy to keep clean, I have found numerous potential scratches that did not get to gel coat, only the wrap. Ive seen 2 other boats that had wraps and they looked new when the wrap came off and were subjected to lots of wear and tear. If I wver get a new boat I would definitely consider doing it again. A friend of mine put a bumper sticker on my Suburban that said- WHY BE NORMAL- and that pretty much sums up my peronality. Also if you are advertising for your own co. it is a write off for the ad. Hope this helps, SAM PS – the scratches would have cost at least half that cost to fix.BAYOU BANDIT
Man! Your asking for a lot of help on a very different pond!
yeah i know bcb. havent been able to find any good maps and i have never been there before. i have heard it is different fishing from the tennessee river that i am used to.
OLE ROB WOULD FISH ALICEVILLE THIS TIME OF YEAR…IF ITS NOT OFF LIMITS…. MAIN RIVER CUTS………….SAM WOULD KNOW BEST THO……ROBIN I LIKE A BLACK RED FLAKE MAG 2 WORM……BUT THATS ME…I CHUNK WORMS MOST OF THE TIME….
i think we can lock through to aliceville and i was gonna prefish some down that way but i hate to be at the lockmasters mercy come weigh in time lol.
I have fished a couple BFL tournaments down there a few years ago. Most tournaments I fished down there I locked down to Aliceville. Only bad thing about locking down is most people come back at 1:00 PM. The next lock would be at 3:00 and if there was a tow boat there they got priority. Could not take that kind of chance so you need something else on Columbus to fish those last couple hours. I had a couple pretty good tournaments down there. Cashed in a couple and should have won one if not for a bad decision I made. Came close in a few BFL tournaments but could never quite get over that hump. Take Care and good luck. Fishing down there use to be a lot better than it has been the last few years !!! Joey
Sonny1, how many people will be in the tourn.? Are you taking off from the Columbus city ramp or the marina? That will help in giving directions.BAYOU BANDIT
sam we are fishing friday and saturday out of city ramp. last year there was 140 boats that made the classic. i am guessing it will be close to that if not a few more this year. i can call you if you dont want to discuss this on the board. thanx
Sonny1, as you are standing on the ramp, look straight across and you wlll see some trees, on the other side of the trees are the gravel pits. You will have to go to the right and go around the last island, then you can run in the pits. There will be a lot of grass or standing plants with leaves. Practice on this grass line with junebug lizards, baby brush hogs or worms. Also spinnerbaits and shallow Bandits. You will have a lot of that kind of water over there. As you go through the pits , out to the left youll see some islands, fish around those also. A Spro frog worked like Dean Rojas might work also in the grass. Lot of pockets back there also. When standing on the ramp, to your right that bank is good early, because they release fish in that area .Also at the ramp you will see the handicap pier, the deep channel runs un front and is good first thing if you can get there first. You can pitch jig or brush hawg on that bank, there should be grass all along that bank. As you leave the ramp and follow the markers to the river take the right shute, as you approach the river that immediate point on the left runs out towards the river and has a good ledge that you can crank and carolina rig and catch a limit some times , especially if they open the locks and draw current. You can run up the river and you will see points on the river car. rig or crank these. Also alot of deep pockets up there to try, above the bridge. Normally the locks start at 6am and every 2 hrs after that. If you lock down then be prepared to lock back at noon, too be safe. If you lock down you can run to the first big cut on right, that is Pratts, run it to the back and flip trees and grass. If you go all the way to Pickensville down, go left into Rivermont, you will see some homes back there and some standing timber. Inside the standing timber it will get deeper as that is an old slew. That area is good for pitcing and cranking as well as spinner baits. All around that area you will see lots of shallow grass, can be good with frog or flukes. There are a number of place on that end that you can go into, be careful for shallow areas and dont get stuck. Thats about it my friend, good luck, SAMLast edited by SAMRUSH on August 27th, 2008, 4:14 am, edited 1 time in total.BAYOU BANDIT
thanx sam. we will be down there from the 14th till the 22nd. is there any place to get a good contour map? so far we havent been able to find anything. i really appriciate the info and if you ever need any info up here in north alabama let me know. sonny
As far as I know, there arent any lake maps , at least weve never found one in 20 yrs. Your GPS system will not show also, most of this is due to military base in Columbus. You might find a small map in the area with no details, you might check at local sport shops or contact Corp of Engineers.BAYOU BANDIT
you can get navigation maps from the Corp of Engineers. Theyre not a lot of good but theyre better than nothing. Wont show any back water, but will show the channel and what cuts run off of it.
Aerial images from Yahoo, Map Quest or Google do help some?
AFTER YOU GET IN THE RIVER…IF YOU HEAD TOWARDS ABERDEEN, NOT VERY FAR….. THERE IS A CUT TO THE LEFT….YOU HAVE TO LOOK HARD TO THE LEFT AND YOU WILL SEE A RAILROAD TRUSSEL IN THE CUT ON THE LEFT BANK…..START ON THE POINT IN THE RIVER AND FISH THAT BANK ALL THE WAY TO THE TRUSSEL…IT IS A DEEP BANK WITH TONS OF COVER…..I FISHED IT WITH A CAROLINA RIG AND A JUNEBUG FINESSE WORM. IT HELD A BETTER QUALITY OF FISH FOR THAT TIME OF YEAR .ROBIN
