You have air in the system due to it has probably lost some fluid. You will need to figure out where the fluid loss is coming from to repair long term. More than likely it is coming from the top seal. In this case check the tightness of the 4 long stainless steel rods in the center of the jack plate. If you need further help with adding fluid, bleeding air, etc. let me know.Phil
Yes, follow Phils instructions and tighten those four stem bolts. Check the fluid level, and then make sure you dont have a seal blown. Since it is stuck at the top, we doubt a seal is out. BCB
Thanks Phil will let you know…..Marc
Hey MarcLong time since we have from the CND CAT , hope things are all well and you are putting a hurting on thoes fish up there.Joe C
Lots for you to learn on this one… Yes you may be too low, and a high five will run at a variety of heights. The best speeds with a 5 blade on that age are probably mid 60s. You can raise the engine easily by loosening the side bolts and twisting the lower screw to raise it. Simple 5 minute process. Though before you mess with it, get to know it and how it performs. BCB
Thanks for the lesson on how to adjust the jack plate. How do I determine which height to set it at? What type and pitch blade will give me the best performance on this boat? What speed and RPM should I be expecting to get from this set up? Thanks.Last edited by Bigbass69 on February 19th, 2009, 9:58 pm, edited 1 time in total.
You will be fine, just order a Detwiler with the special BCB bolt pattern and those six (6) mounting bolts in the standard hydraulic. Detwiler will know exactly what you are after and it is an 8″ (7 3/8″ actual), and you can check pricing with BCB parts also. BCB
Thanks,Will do.Eric
a hard job at all. Need something to support your motor that can bolt to the flywheel bolts other then that only issue I have is when I tried to check the fluid after installing and filling I cant get boat bow low enough to make it level. So I need to come up with some way to check the fluid on the trailer but havent worked at it at all. May be that I can lower trailer tongue right to the floor and get it….You will enjoy it mine works flawlessly and snaking the wiring was not too bad. I use the Ezact dial so I can return to the same spot every time for liftoff……………….
Just raise the plate so it will clear the transom, or install a limit switch to keep it from tilting that high. Cheaper, simpler. Also make sure the engine is mounted to the plate in the second hole from top. Mine was below flush and still cleared.
They say an 8″ is fine now, though that is mostly to gain the offset for steering clearance. Hydraulic plates really dont help much except flat (shallow) water and tidal water. They are not a performance enhancement, though more of a preference and make set up simpler.
If you are interested I have a 8 inch Detwiler with exacta dial in great condition $650 shipped to your door 251-401-2408
First and foremost it voids the warrantee.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
No performance gain and undue stress on the transom.
Bobs plates do not go low enough to perform properly on BCB newer hulls.
