What is the average cost of purchase and installation of either one of these?2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
I think I paid $450 for the install of the Hamby on my Puma.
I think the keel guard is around $150 at local stores + installation? Of course, I bought my Eyra used and not sure how old the keel guard is on it, but I have had Hambys for 9+ years on each of my other boats that did not have a damaged area like this one, and I have bumped them on concrete ramps for years. Like I said, due to the age of the boat and the cost, I will replace this one eventually with another one. But if it is a new boat and I have a choice, I would go with Hambys and never second guess my choice.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Hamby and Keelguard are both made by Megaware. The Hamby is dealer install the Keelguard is do it yourself. They are both exceptional products. I have installed several Keelguards and they work extemely well and can be installed in less than an hour but, following the instructions in a must. With this said the Hamby is the Cadillac but, the Keelguard will serve the same purpose. I have never had a Keelguard come off of a boat that I have installed one on. If you go to http://www.bassedge.com and go to media center, then on the right side look for see ” See Also” under that click on “Videos” then scroll down and you can see me install a Keelguard. Its just a consolidated install but it, might help. GlennLast edited by mocatt on January 25th, 2008, 3:40 pm, edited 1 time in total.
marine tex or you can replace. I assume youre talking about one of the keel protectors that utilize tape to stick to the hull.
phil where can i get marine tex.
google marine tex epoxy and you will get many different locations
3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4200. If you might want to replace the Keel Guard later.
mine has a gash in it from a tree, about halfway down. its right on the fulcrum where the hull vs. ouch. ive repaired with silicone, but it doesnt hold. gonna replace it, i guess. any advice on how-to would be appreciated.
Just a thought, doesnt the Hambys and Keelshield come with a lifetime warranty? If that is the case, they should be replaced by dealer. Can someone set me straight if this is not true. THANKS pant 2 Bob
but i think theyll just replace the hardware. removal and reinstallation are the boat owners responsibility (i think). (i purchased mine thru bass pro shops, then had it installed at a fiberglass shop). im not sure, though. im taking some photos to email to keel guard (who i think now own hamby?) to see what they say.
These stick on Keel protectors are only as good the installation. Yes they have a lifetime warranty for materials but if it was installed poorly that is up to the boat owner and who installed it. Hambys and Mega Ware did merge but they are still operated seperately. Did it just to corner more of the market. Called Roger with Hambys just the other day and if it is a Keel Guard you will have to contact them. The adhesive is a bear to get off. Let me know how it goes if you take it off.
Fix it right the first time. If it is a tape on job you will need to remove it. Otherwise the tape will contine to peel/rip a little at a time. Do not glue a small section, it will come back to haunt you because it will make cleaning triple extra hard. Take it off. Clean hull and guard real good. I use actone. Rough up the guard with a wire brush. Envirotex lite pour on epoxy. Other stuff may work but this is all that I have ever used for gluing these things on. Prep prep prep
The best option today is the auto w/s urethane and it is what they use to fasten the Hambys now. Just tape it off, press it in place till the urethane cures. Though clean it up before it cures too.
Hey Darrell, give me a call its an easy fix. Mike
