What I have done on my Bass Cats for many years now is to run the plug(s) for the charger(s) up thru the vent tube on the port rear and secure them with a simple wire clamp using one of the existing screws that holds down the vent shield. This shield faces rear-ward, and is usually convenient for plugging in when in a boat slip. 1. Remove the vent lid; three screws hold it on.2. Run a wire or hanger, etc, down thru the flexible vent tube into the bilge area.3. Secure the plug wire(s) to it and pull back up thru vent tubing, being careful not to tear or snag it.4. Install the wire clamp(s) using existing Screws.5. Re-install the vent cap.6. Plug them in and charge away.Good Luck.
Good idea, but I prefer to keep one of my bilge compartment lids cracked open when charging, esp in the summer.Helps keep the compatment vented of gas emitted when charging the batteries and also helps keep the bilge area and onboard battery charger cooler.
BCB does not wire a onboard plug to force the owner to open the lids to access the plugs. This helps assure that you will vent the bilge of hydrogen gasses. You can do as you wish.
If you have AGM batteries I dont think there are fumes to vent. Gary great idea on running the wires through the fresh air vent using wire clamps. I zip tied mine up on the rear seat pedestal poll that runs into the rear bilge but may have to try that vent.

You can do as you wish.I ALWAYS open my lid and vent while charging by turning the latch arm as if it is closed with the lid up. You can also make a small “lid prop” by cutting off a broom handle. I prefer to use my method instead of having a loose plug end…My answer was about easily hooking up to the plug, and I should have made it perfectly clear to VENT.Gary Hollander
Thanks to all for advice. Im very aware of venting issues and NEVER charge without the lid proper open. I still want to mount a receptical connector and will locate it somewhere, I just wondered if someone else had done one. My 87 Panterra had one when I bought it used and I really found it useful
I have a new Jaguar and am thinking of adding a receptacle so I can plug in my chargers without opening the rear lids. Has anyone tried this, if so a suggestion on location to mount would be appreciatedRon
Scott, you ought to put this over on the BassCat Owners Page.http://basscatowners.yuku.com/forums/63
Thanks, that soumds like a more on topic place.
You will get more responses over on the other section, but a lot of us look on here every day also. It really depends on how you feel about the boat. My Dad blew his engine on his 96 and since he keeps his boats a LOOOOOOOONG time, there was nothing wrong with the boat itself, and he has no intentions of replacing the boat anytime soon, he went with a new engine. When it comes to resale you wont get out of it what you put into it, but if youre like my Dad then you arent looking at resale anyway. If you have in your mind that you are getting the newer boat fever, then you might have regrets later if you repower yours. Not having monthly notes is a plus but it comes down to what you feel you can afford and are ready to do. There are a lot of nice newer Panteras out there and Im sure you can find a great one in the price range you are wanting to stay within.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Thanks for the insight. I like my PII 94 but its old. If I could find a newer one with the same HP and Length for a few more thousand than a new motor I think it would be the right decision. What about my boat for resale. Its gotta be hard to sell a boat with a blown motor I am sure. Should you just price the boat/trailer then add core fee for the engine? Have any of you experienced selling a boat with a blown motor?
Where are you located I am searching for a boat and have not ruled out buying one and putting a new motor on it.
South end of Lake Sam Rayburn. About 15 miles north of Jasper TX.
Would definitely consider selling the boat and trailer and parting out the rest of the motor thats good. I had a 99 p. Classic that I had for about 2 years and it blew the powerhead. I sold the boat and trailer and parted out the motor and came out enough ahead to make a decent dent in a newer boat. I was surprised at the number of people interested in a boat without a motor. I put it up for sale on this website and had it sold in about a week. The motor parts I put on scream and fly.com and that all went fast too.
Thats great advise gasaxe! I was wondering how that option would go… I am going to do that method. Thanks for the site information as well!
