As far as bottomfinding, display, and quality of resolution, i dont think you can beat the Lowrance color units. Im currently running the 27c, and 510c on my P4 and love them. May upgrade on my next boat to the 27c(or equivalent) on both units, with gps antennas on both, with the proper mapcards they are incredibly accurate, and the tracking feature makes the open water fishing i like to do much easier. I dont know how we ever did without these units ? I guess we used alot of marker bouys ! Ward even made the comment the other day of how great the new color units are in the resolution, and ease of use. Good luck, and there are alot of smarter users out there than me, but i am impressed with these units, D.
Thanks D. For a while there I thought everybody was afraid to voice an opinion! lol Catalaccin in Da Cat, BCC

You crack me up…also see the post where Joe is trying to get his Lowrance out of the dash, wonder why??? Oh nevermind, yall stick with Lowrance I wouldnt want everyone to have a sidefinder Seriously, there is nothing wrong with a 520, I had 2 332s on my 06 Puma and they were both great units. I put LCX 28C HD on the bow last year and it was well worth the expense. I thought the bigger unit up front would be too much, but I wouldnt be without it now. The display and resolution are great and combined with the gps and using split screen, deep structure fishing (which I do a lot of) has greatly improved. It is almost like cheating. Ive been using lowrance for 15 years, but these new units are a whole new animal. You wont regret the bigger screen. The only down side of having the unit up front is that there is always water off your line or reel or off a fish, spashing onto the screen and the color units are a bit hard to see when they get wet. You wont have that problem on the console. Good luck.
For $500-$600 theres no better unit out there than the LMS-520C! Unless youre looking to do some saltwater fishing you dont need to spend the extra for the 525df either. JMHO–Enjoy! DekeDeke
Thanks for the input. I really want the x28, well see………anybody want my rock and string depthfinder….only used on saturdays….cheap! BCC
Judd, Judd, Judd? Dont get me started on this one and certainly dont bite the hand that feeds you! A 500 series Lowrance will serve your purposes well! You dont need the dual frequency though!Last edited by PhilAddison on January 17th, 2008, 12:55 am, edited 1 time in total.
All the sonar issues we have, we never see a happy unit! So heres a picture of my graph with some bass, one a 3 pound smallie about to be snatched from the deep and put in my Puma FTD livewell.Last edited by mike dominick on July 29th, 2014, 12:06 am, edited 3 times in total.
They will be having new units come out in the spring. They will eventually rotate the introduction of new models to the model years of the boat market. Though now they are mid year on introduction. The newer units are not out yet and we have no firm commitment date on receipt.
Electronics are all the same whether it be computers or video games. As soon as you buy the latest greatest there will be something new come out. The good news is since Lowrance has offered the linking system they seem to be keeping the connections the same for a while. that has always been a hassle in the past, seems like every time they changed models they changed plugs also.
they have a new HD5 but continue with the lms520c. they were on sale here awhile back for 499 at academy but held out and they droped the price to 399 everything included so i bought then
Yes, have heard it is about 599.00 Check three river marines web site. they have it there for that. Someone else may have it for less. You can put yourself on the waiting list. pant 2 BobLast edited by pant 2 on October 14th, 2009, 8:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Yes I went from a 520C to the HDS5 and had to make a larger hole for the HDS to even fit in there, and the rear mounting bracket is no longer used, just make sure its squared in the hole and use the screws to anchor the four corners in place I actually like this idea better, makes it harder for un trustworthy folks to get your unit out of the dash then the old style.
