Im faced with a similar situation… I have a 332c in the console and Id like to replace it with the new 800 series humming bird but my electronics guy said he would have to do an external installation for that… Does anyone know why this may be?
I should be able to install an 898 in the dash right?
Return the screws and then get some clear silicone and just glue the unit to the hole in the dash.I install and uninstall the unit in the dash of my boat each spring/winter and the clear silicone works great.
We do most every day, and yes they get too much for those L brackets and screws… BCB
I flush mounted my HDS 8 in my dash. You have to pull off the face plate of the unit to gain access to the screw holes. I assume the HDS 5 is the same??? Send the screws back and get your money back. Go to the hardware store and buy 4 screws for less than a buck!
The HDS units may well be great units…I never had one so I cant say. So far from the sound of things I read on this board and on other boards…I sure do thank Sherm for talking me into getting HB units a couple of years ago on the Baycat…I stayed with them on my new Cougar.
On our Fishing Lake Champlain board a couple months ago there was a lot of discussion about service at Lowrance. In particular they let one of their best people Linda go and she was the “go to” person when having problems. Sounds like Lowrance isnt big a customer service. Kind of silly in the long run. If I was buying new, Id go with HB or one of others like Garmen. Maybe BC could offer to consult to show Lowrance how customer service should be done. They need the help.
Ive seen rumors floating around the internet. I hope they dont combine SS/DS into the unit. I for one like the modular design of this. http://advancedangler.com/FeatureArticl … +HDS+TouchLast edited by GRR884 on October 1st, 2012, 2:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.
http://www.lowrance.com/e…Products/HDS-Gen2-Touch/Little pricey! I got a ten in my dash……. I wonder if the 12 will fit……
I see G. Clouse coming out with a dash to fit it (12 ) probably already in the works ……………………lol
Played with the 12, 9, 7 inch today. Game changer !!! and im a humminbird guy. The 12 is only 3/4 inch bigger than a 1198 If I remember correctly. I know under an inch for sure. Its like a giant smart phone. All I know is that I have to get some and im a dead man when I do.

HDS9 looks to have similar footprint as HB998. Hmmm… Ease of use is for certain a shot over the bow at Humminbird. Win, win for customers. You know HB will be responding and I bet its not just centric to full imaging 360. All I got to say is its pimping cool.
Built in structure scan so probably no lss bundle needed anymore.

The biggest reason I went with lowrance was because I could add the structure scan later, otherwise I would have chosen a hummingbird HD DI combo. I think it will be a mistake to make it built in rather than an add on.
