Not doubt he does have a lot on his plate. Just try to pretend your in my situation. I was raised to be a man of my word. I continue to raise my son that way. Mr. Pierce has many people that work for him. He has a secretary, I am not certain but I’d venture to guess he has a smart phone. It is very easy to set reminders to remind yourself of things your supposed to do. A simple call from somebody at Basscat to check in and arrange a time to look at the boat would have prevented all of this. Still besides the response to me on the forum I have heard nothing. I am sure Mr. Pierce is a fine man. Even good people make mistakes and drop the ball. Why not a simple, man we messed up and I apologize. At this point my problem has nothing to do with the boat.
We have been clear in that soon after the conversation we verified the boat went up for sale. We then removed the item from our agenda as we mentioned.
The gentleman was asked to wait and give us time to find an engine we could use in 250 Pro XS. We were completing the Puma STS and finishing 2022 preparation on other models, all while preparing for dealer meeting at that time. That had to be our most important objective. His boat was operational and performs, just not to his desired level of expectation.
We will not complicate anything when it is on the market and a potential buyer may be interested, by having the boat in our possession. Even now we do not have an operating 250 Pro XS engine in our possession to flip out. We do have new engines, though we do not retain test models as we are a boat company, not an engine company.
We just completed dealing this week with a similar issue, and the issue was not ours in that case. That boat improved significantly when the issue that was found was addressed.
If the boat is not on the market we will revisit the situation when we can.
Were these stock props? Sometimes they need some loving out of the box. A balance and blue print can do wonders with slip and speed. Set up gremlins can go with any new rig. I spent well over a year and tested 8 different props before I got my rig dialed in. Keep tinkering with set up. What’s good for one Puma hull can be a tweaks difference in another to get dialed in.

This was my first thought too! Props can be way off out of the box. Get it to Ronnie Gilbert!
The other is simply the weight you put in the nose of the boat. A heavier or different brand of TM and multiple units add drag as well as weight. There is no reason to go after BCB yet.
The prop was the first thing I tried. Sent the prop to Mr. Gilbert. After extensive conversations with him he is in agreement something is off with the boat. My dealer took graphs off the front to see if that made a difference and it didn’t. Guys it is a Basscat issue. End of story. I would not be raising hell if I had not already don’t everything Basscat recommended. Mr. Pierce will tell me that low 70s isn’t out of the ordinary, however I have him on video tell several guys at the classic that the Puma is a mid to high 70s rig. As I was told the same thing by 3 different employees went I did a plant tour. It’s either one way or the other. Don’t use it as a selling point if every rig won’t do it. I would like some honest reply’s. Guys how is this boat marketed? Is it marketed to be fast, mid to upper 70s or not? Anyone else have issues like mine?
It sure is interesting. I had a 2010 PII that would not do over 67 and most times 65. I tried a bazillion props and never figured out why. Motor was good too. I chalked it up to being a slow one. My 2016 Cougar would do 79 fully loaded with 2 guys on a hot day. I guess that was a fast one. I stupidly sold it.
Keep Calm and Go Fishing. Keep working with the dealer. Is there another Puma that you can compare it to?
I have honestly looked everywhere I can. No place can I find where BC guarantees a boat will run 74 mph. Dont know where you store tackle, but if its forward of the console, move it to the rear boxes. Amazing how much difference 10 or 15 pounds of tackle make. My 2021 Sabre picked up 4 MPH.
I agree. To my knowledge Basscat does not have a “published” speed for their boats. However, Chevy doesn’t publish a speed on the corvette nor does Ford for the mustang. But they are know to be fast sports cars. Next time you have a chance to speak with someone from Basscat about their boats, just ask them how fast a puma/cougar will run. I guarantee they will not tell you 71mph. In my opinion you give up a lot of room in a Basscat. I have always been fine with that because I wanted the speed. Without the speed the trade off is not worth it to me.
Maybe I missed it in this long thread, but are those speed numbers GPS or dash gauge? Big difference.
Yes sir they are gps for sure.
Honestly i agree. This seems slow….. To most how would it feel for a P2 with a duece to come cruzing by running 72 or 73? Wouldnt feel good for sure. My buddy has a puma(14) that consistently would touch 80 with the 2 stroke. He changed to the 4 stroke and still sees 78 plus regular.
Though i would try to be patient, i feel confident Rick will make this right.
Things i dont understand….. seems the older hulls were faster. Why
A buddy in our bass club has P2 and he smokes me. We will take off at the same time and he whips me like I’m setting still and I can’t catch up at all. My last cat would constantly run 78 to 80 fully loaded.
Dang! I missed all of this thinking just another customer applauding their excellent experience with their dealer or showing a card where Rick Pierce signed thanking them for their purchase, etc. Just get the damn boat back to BCB and let them assess. Rick offered that two months ago! Nothing is getting resolved until that happens. Good luck and I sincerely mean that!
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Good luck.
Mr. Addison, I believe Mr. Gilbert spoke with you about this boat shortly after I picked it up. Rick made an offer and did not make good on it. I will say that I did get an email and phone call for Mr. Owens at Basscat to address the issue just yesterday. Unfortunately I just sold the boat. I’ve been unhappy with it since the first trip to the lake. I wait like Mr. Pierce asked me to do. I couldn’t deal with the dog any longer. All I wanted was for somebody at Basscat to care enough to try to make my boat right. It cost me a lot of money but I learned my lesson. As for the honey and fly guy. You are out of your mind if you think I am going try to kiss ass to get my problem solved. I spent my hard earned money on someone’s faulty product. It is their job to fix it. Good luck and happy fishing. Hope everyones experience turns out better than mine. Fool me once same on you, fool me twice shame on me.
