If that scratch is showing a rust line, then we would definitely have our dealer look at it. We usually find a hairline fracture if there is a rust line running across the blade? Better safe than sorry in this case.BCB
How long is the warranty on a new trophy or tempest?
One Year, until 2008, and they are now 3 years on all Mercury parts with the engine warranty. Or 2 years on an EFI engine and parts. We do not think the extended warranty applies to parts under the new warranty plan, though we will find out.BCB
So prop is only covered with purchase of boat motor or from the dealer. I cannot buy directly from mercury so I have no way of offering a warranty.
Only Mercury Certified Service Centers have Warranty privileges. We at BCB do not have Warranty rights on Mercury parts either.BCB
Thanks for the info?Blow out rings! I have been in the business for 7 years not and honestly can say I have never seen one or a any of the books I have show them. Sounds like a dumb question from a prop man? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blow Out Ring, is a slang term! The Mercury Part #878421, is a “Propeller Sealing Ring”, that fits Trophy Propellers. Some mechanics even call it a “Diffuser Ring”. All the same thing!James
Thank you! I now realize what it is. Never seen one on any props that I take off and repair or when I replace a tempest with trophy. I am starting to believe people expect to much out of whole shots when the are loaded down with every thing in there boat.
No Lawson101, they only want the best perfromance they can achieve. The vent rings, and PVS plugs have allowed us to tweak or adjust ventilation, and free the back side (vacuum) of the blade to improve build up of RPMs sooner. They do not want too much, only what they can achieve. And it can be achieved with these combos. This is nothing new, as we used to drill hubs, and Protestor had the first insert plugs we are aware of, which allowed you to drill those plugs out for improved performance. The vent rings have been around since those old Hooter Propellers of Pendergrass (Gary). They were aluminum back then and pressed on the hub tightly. We still have some of those aluminum rings. We also have seen tri cut hub kits for Choppers which gave a resemblance of a hub to the rear of those old chopper propellers for reducing the ventilation we all had to deal with years ago. This is not new technology, though ongoing and evolving.BCB
I have a 25P trophy plus, and mine has 4 round holes about that same size. The PVS plugs are also round. Are you sure its not the trophy plus that you purchased. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Many people drilled the old Trophys to accomplish the same things the PVS system does. Unfortunately, you dont have the same flexability as you do with the PVS plugs. I would be shocked if BCB doesnt have a trick for you to cover a hole. Maybe epoxy or something???? Sorry not much help, all of my prop tinkering has been in the last 7-8 year and almost everything with Plus props. Judd Lasiter edit – spelling errors
I have used JB weld to fill the holes on the older props in the past. It worked just fine and I didnt have any problems with it coming out. Just clean the hole and put a piece of masking tape over the back side of the hole, then put the JB weld in the hole and smooth it out. You could also send it to a prop shop and have them fill the holes. Im not sure about a Trophy but, the older Tempest props had vent holes drilled in them from the factory……………..Glenn
Thats how we had to drill them in the “old days”, i usually drilled 7/16″, and then to 1/2″ if necessary,,,,the prop should run o.k., and if you need to enlarge you can, but closing would be best done by a prop shop. The ventilation unfortunately is probably necessary for the holeshot. Oh, and if you try to drill holes in a prop go and buy ss drills, the regular drills will hurt you !!! D.
I have a trophy plus on the boat now,so Im familiar with the vent holes, these are just round drilled holes near the bottom of the prop blades. The Trophy and Tempest Plus props have the holes inbetween each blade, and the holes are recessed so the PVS plugs are flush in the prop, looks like this was a garage project possibly, must have been a good drill bit and press to do so because they are drilled pretty darn good.Im really not interested in filling these.Anyone interested in this prop???.Its like new, theres not a mark on it.25p
It sounds like you are describing an A-45 Trophy prop. These are like gold and sell for mucho dollars when they are available. They were generally considered faster than the current Trophy props. You have a good prop, dont worry about not being able to tune it like the newer props.
