OOPs! Should be Fury not rage. Guess I was thinking about my wifes reaction to my buying a new prop
That motor is designed to turn up to 6000 rpms at WOT. I think your gauge is off a bit with the 26 Trophy and your motor height (might touch the limiter…but should be near 6000). I am running a 09 Puma with 225 Pro XS and I am turning 5700 rpms with a 26 Fury. Other folks are running the 26 Fury on the 250 and “touching” the limiter. All things considered, the 26 Fury would probably be your best bet…should lower your rpms just enough to keep you out of the limiter. Just a side note… if you get a Fury, raise your motor 3/8″……or measure the prop shaft height to be sure….I am 3 5/8 ” below pad and can touch 76mph lightly loaded (rear tanks full, 15 gal. under seat) with my 225 Pro XS….it has a “rocket” hole shot as well.
5850 is the rev limiter for most 250 Pro XS models. The Fury is a propeller we would suggest trying, though it will be hard to outperform your Trophy. We are not aware of the Rage propeller. BCB
How much you totin? If youre carrying a lot of weight then a 26 Fury is what you should be looking at. If youre lightweighted, then a 27 Fury. I havent ran a 27 Fury out of the box yet, but will in the next month or so. I did have a 26 Fury “tuned up” a little to keep me off the rev limiter. One thing you might consider is having your current Trophy tuned or purchasing a 27 Trophy. It would be cheaper than buying a new prop! My prop guy can usually get another 1-3 mph out of a prop, but more so get you what youre looking for. The Trophy is the best prop for top end speed, but dont know if thats what youre looking for. What is your current top end speed? How long you had the boat?
I generally fish alone except an occasional draw tournament. I weigh in at 175 and carry an average load of tackle, so I guess you could say I run a little light. My last check on Wot I hit the rev limiter and had a GPS of 71-72. Ambient temp 95, water temp 88. Im looking for a prop that will perform well at the full range and will turn about 5700 WOT. Ive had the boat since it was new, about a year. Have been running bass boats (including 4 cats) for about 40 years. The Puma handled differently so Ive taken my time to get the max speed and performance. In cooler temps about 74. Concerned about my warranty if I keep hiting the rev limiter. I need a spare prop and intend to buy another, just dont want to invest $500 in something that doesnt satisfy my needs. My question still remains “will the 26 trophy and the 26 fury turn about the same RPM with the same set up and similar conditions”? The answer to that question will determine what prop I buy. Assume from what Ive read that the 27 fury gives a good hole shot with my rig. Thanks for the input. Awaiting response to make decision.
Some run the 26 and others prefer the 27 Fury. Though we would go 26 and the RPM of Fury vs. Trophy is less with a Fury slightly.
After much research, I ordered the Fury 27 pitch. Received it yesterday and test drove it this morning. Have not tried it with a heavy load but with approx. 30 gallons of fuel, 4 batteries and tackle, and my 180 lbs. it exceeded all expectations. Cured the rev limiter problem, turned 5820 RPM and GPSed 76.5 MPH. Much easier to drive than the 26 trophy plus. Followed recommendation to raise the jack plate 3/8″ and it appears to be the perfect height. Thank you all for the advice.
Thats great…………nice when things work out. The Fury is one heck of a prop….sounds like youre the first to try the 27 Pitch.
How was the hole shot with the 27 Fury. If you say it has a good hole shot, I will order one tomorrow. Corky
We would go with a 25 Fury on your rig.
Hey Delta- First of all it was Sunnys electric in Sac- hes the bomb on electrical issues Regarding the prop Id email Chad Martin(out your way) has he has had this exact set up and much better speeds. chadbass77@comcast.net My bad- assumed it was a 225 HO-Last edited by clownshoes on September 19th, 2009, 2:54 am, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. A couple of months ago I ran a Cougar Advantage Elite w/ a 225 ETEC. Using a 25 Fury it would run around 71-72. I would recommend that prop as well.
No worries you assumed right it is the HO. A local boat dealer is allowing me to demo the 26 fury tomorrow night.
Does your Trophy prop have the plastic plugs in the hub of the prop. If so, experiment with pulling one at a time. If the plugs are all removed, then you might consider a Merc Fury prop or a smaller Trophy (25p). Good luck!
Boat is currently in storage with ten inches of ice on lakes. Ill be running a direct line to the graphs because of loosing power while cranking big motor next weekend and will check that out. All this watching fishing is making me want to head south and get a line wet.
