Cabelas sells a lightweight parka and pants called PacLite made of goretex that packs into a small space. Im real pleased with mine. Very comfortable and dry and a lot lighter than the guidewear. And not real expensive.

Ill just call it like Ive seen it. Guidewear sucks- too heavy too hot. Get a good rainsuit after guidewear and youll be pissed you ever spent money on guidewear.the dude that picks out the rainsuit options for the bcb store is a picky SOB when it comes to technical gear and that is the stuff he wears in all kinds of nasty weather in a boat. I wear a gore Tex shell that is waterproof, I add easily compressible down jacket and pants beneath goretex shell as temps require it. My son and I bought the Gill FG21 rain gear from the BCB website. I havent personally worn it in any heavy rain but my son did and overall it did a great job. The only place he got a little wet was up his arms but it was pouring rain all day. I wear mine all the time in the cool weather and Im very happy with it

Ive been looking for a couple yrs for a good rainsuit. The problem for me is ill be buying for me and my partner (wife). We have looked at them ALL. SO many makers out there know priced from “Cheapo” to “”HighO”. I fully understand the meaning of “you pay for wat you get”. I personally think the GILL is one of the top Dawgs in outerwear. For us though to spend 1500.00 on rainwear to get it to the door is a hard pill to swallow.. we both like bibs and a jacket. To be honest we fish pretty often in the rain.though most of the time it is in the 50degree to 80 degree anything over 80 and Im not fooling with rainwear anyway.. right know I use a cheaper pair of frogg toggs. I have a Gill rain suit I bought off the BCB store. I really like mine. I wear it all the time and I have been in a down pour and stayed dry.

Look around for skiing apparel, or backpacking gear. I have some Arcteryx gear. Ive got a pair of bibs and a jacket Ive had for 20 years and its great gear. Goretex, or equivalent will do the trick. My stuff is strictly shells, but I can wear it in all Temps (other than 90 degrees, and then Ill just get wet to cool off). Its a bit oversized so you can layer up with fleece and put that on for both waterproofing and windproof ing. A thin shell is all you need for rain gear, but good stuff will last a lifetime. And its not going to stifle you in the warmer Temps. Expect to pay 300 to 500 for good stuff.
