Hi all,
does anyone know how many people the bass cat Sabre is rated for? I would like to take my wife and two young kids on the boat, but need to make sure it is rated for 4 people. Can’t find that info anywhere.
also, on the website, it says that with the motor trimmed and the tongue swung in, the Sabre stores at 19’8”. That seems too good to be true. Can anyone verify?
thanks!
steve
4 people is good. with engine trimmed down and tounge swung, it will do 19.8
You have to know what year. I think 2019 and older Sabre were rated for 4. When I went to order a 2021 found out those were only rated for 3 now. Basscat switched to NMMA standards, or something like that, and the formula changed. Smallest basscat rated for 4 now is P2 or classic. I ended up with a p2, it’s about 22 ft realistically with tongue open. My garage is 20 fit deep, boat fits at an angle. I was in same boat, needed capacity for wife an 2 kids, on the odd chance she actually wanted to come.
Wouldn’t be surprised if number of people was reduced because we citizens have grown in size and weight.
Ugh, I hope someone can confirm. I was looking at a 2023, but that will be a straight dealbreaker if only rated for 3…
4 persons or 550lbs per the coast guard label on a 2017 sabre ftd/ rated for a 175. not sure if its changed on the newest models but the hull has not so I would doubt so.
Actually go to the bass cat page, pull up the sabre model…. additional photos and you can see the cooler step and coast guard tag it still 4 persons.
Lol that attentional to detail is amazing. Thanks Matt Hayes!
If you want to be sure, call Basscat.
I figured out it changed by looking at the build by serial number Facebook page. Noticed the new Sabres were showing only 3 people on the coast guard tags. Had to change my order to a p2 to get the 4 person capacity.

zoom in and can see only 3. This is a new Sabre.
My ‘16 Sabre FTD is 4 persons, but the new ones I’ve seen show 3 persons. Not sure why they changed, but am curious the reason.
The persons and capacity weight limits changed due to the NMMA regulations on horsepower weights used increasing, as four strokes weigh more.
Thanks. So can you confirm they are only rated for 3 people?
I just looked at mine. It says 3 people. Its a 2021 Sabre FTD SP
The 19’8″ is incorrect. I just bought a 2020 Sabre with the 150 Merc Pro XS, because it was supposed to fit in my 20 foot 2 inch garage. Even with the swing away tongue open and the motor down to the side, I have to turn the boat about 40+ degrees to get it in. Thank God my wife still has enough room to get her GMC Acadia in too. I have a about a foot between the front of the boat and the back of her vehicle. However, I do love the boat! It has an 8 inch slidemaster manual jackplate, but I believe that is standard. I called the factory before I bought the boat and asked them how they came up with that measurement, but they couldn’t tell me

The 4-strokes are not only heavier, but also longer and believe the overall length listed is based on the old discontinued 2-strokes.
